Avoid Improper Digital Marketing

Incorrect digital marketing can often lead to poor search results

, even when some of the best search engines are used.

At the SES New York conference on March 23rd, David Meerman Scott, author of World Wide Rave: Creating Triggers that Get Millions of People to Spread Your Ideas, advised those who attended the conference to focus more on creating content on the web that was more relevant and useful to those who look up information, rather than trying to boost sales by adding irrelevant content to their web page, as a scheme of digital marketing.

"On the Web, you are what you publish," were the key note address of the conference.

Meerman Scott added that the best way to gain attention over the web was by providing information that was useful to its users and that would prove to be productive to those who search for such information. This is opposed to new digital marketing techniques which often produce poor search results due to clever marketing tricks. This often leaves users dissatisfied and at times very annoyed.

"Nobody cares about your products; they care about themselves and they care about solving problems," he said. "If you can create good content that helps them solve their problems, then they will share your content." he added to his address against improper digital marketing.

Meerman Scott quoted an example of the Grateful Dead and Disney in his address as well. In his address he went on to say that the Grateful Dead based itself on more of a tape-trading culture and worked on improving its band image. While Disney on the other hand only uses its webpage to provide "about us" information that was very unclear and elusive, as part of its digital marketing strategy.

The conference in New York lasted for five days. During the conference, issues such as PPC management, keyword research, SEO and social media were touched upon.

The conference was a drive against improper digital marketing that is common in every company, agency and consultancy in today's time. Techniques known as black hat SEO that use methods such as link farms; where web addresses in a group are linked to each other that leads a user to information from a certain group of websites, keyword stuffing; the repetition of a word that would boost its search engine optimization, and article spinning; that is clever editing of articles that have already been published, are very common in digital marketing these days. All of these techniques lower both the relevance of search results.

When a company or agency wants to focus on digital marketing in today's time, it needs to use proper methods. Digital marketing through keyword stuffing, link farms and article spinning are not the correct methods of digital marketing.
