If you choose a subject you are passionate about then you will never be stuck for things to blog about because you are already an expert in the field. So already the killer question: "Just what should I blog about?" has been answered and it is now just a matter of getting online.

Another great bonus of blogging is that it need not cost you any money to get up and running.There are many free blogging platforms available such as Blogger.com or Wordpress.com. (Just search for free blogging platforms' on the internet and you will find just how many you can choose from.)

Join one of these free sites and you could be up and running as a new internet blogger within minutes. Many have free online tutorials to get you up to speed with the mechanics of blogging and there are many blogging forums on the internet if you need help.

Generally speaking, if you can write an email, edit text and add an attachment to an email then you can post words and pictures to your blogging platform without any problem at all. Also if you make a mistake it is no big deal as you can change what you have written after you have posted it. Changing the odd word, adding or deleting a picture or even deleting an entire blog post you are unhappy with can all be done in seconds.

If you update your blog regularly and post content relevant to your blog topic you will soon build up a following and you may be susprised at just how fast your blog gets picked up by the search engines. Search engines love blogs, especially if they are updated regularly with fresh and unique content. If you choose to add pictures and videos too then the search engines will like it all the more and your readers will find your blog more interesting.

Blogs also allow others to comment on the posts you make and this is a great way to build up an online community of people who share the same interest or passion.

You can learn from the people who post comments on your blog and they will learn from the things you write about. Often those who post comments on your blog will have their own blog on the same theme and once you get established you may be invited to post as a guest blogger' on other people's blogs, thereby getting your name known to even more people.

Some people are just happy to blog for blogging sake while others use it as a tool to either promote themselves or their business. One word or warning though; don't be tempted to use your blog as a blatant advertising tool as this will quickly turn people away and you can lose your following in an instant.

There can be a couple of downsides to having your blog hosted on a free platform. For example you may be limited as to the type of content you can post as determined by the 'terms and conditions' of the blog hosting company.

You really must familiarize yourself with these terms and conditions before you start posting because if you infringe them, even if you do so out of ignorance or by accident, then you could see your blog taken down without warning.

Some people may also view a free hosted blog as being a bit amateurish and you may also be limited by the 'look and feel' of the blog and whether or not you can place adverts on your blog to generate revenue.

Of course the advantages of having a free blog may outweigh the disadvantages but if at some point you decide you want the flexibility of hosting the blog yourself then the move need not be complicated.

Many webhosting companies are particularly blog friendly' and you may be pleasantly surprised how easy it is to make the move and you will often be able to easily transfer all your old blog posts to your new blogging platform. Don't forget to tell your followers were to find your new blog and just keep posting as before.

In the end whether you go free or paid is up to you but as you can start blogging for free then this is a great way to start out and get to learn the ropes. The key thing is actually getting started and blogging about a subject close to your heart is a great place to start.
