No she isn't shy- we all know that from watching her on 20/20 and The View but her interview style can be used by shy video marketers everywhere to make amazing videos people will love to watch.
Think about the last interview you watch Barbara do. She sits in a chair across a table with a lovely flower arrangement from her guest and starts asking questions. The guest looks directly at Barbara starts to cry or laugh and answers the questions. The viewers get to be a fly on the wall for the candid conversation and feel like they are right there in the room with them watching the guest reveal their biggest secrets.
What you don't see is the camera crew!
The guest and Barbara never look directly at the camera. They are just there having a conversation between the 2 of them that happens to be recorded in the process.
That is a dead simple way for shy video marketers to be on screen and still feel comfortable.
Enroll a business partner, a friend or even a family member to read you questions and then simply sit back, smile and answer them honestly.
If it is a business partner, trade. Ask them some questions as the interviewer and let them answer.
Position the camera so that it is aiming at you but off to the side so it looks like you are just having a conversation that is being recorded.
The interviewer can be on screen or off. Depends on the size of the room, the equipment you have available (1 or 2 cameras) and the look you are going for with the video.
