Like many European cities and the world, Barcelona is also often used by filmmakers as a movie set, especially in recent years. One of the most famous Spanish directors is Pedro Almodovar. I'd like to present you some areas in Barcelona portrayed in several movies. Popular places in Barcelona are the Columbus Monument in Plaza del Portal de la Pau, the Gothic Quarter and Palau de la Msica. All these places are used in a different way in the movies "All About My Mother" by Almodovar, "L'Auberge Espagnole" by Klapish and "Scent of a Murderess and History" by Tykwer. A less touristic place, but a very popular movie scene, is Plaza de Duc de Medinacelli. It was also used in the movie "All About My Mother" starring Penelope Cruz.

This movie of Woody Allen has some scenes filmed in the famous shopping center Maremagnum and also on artistic and cultural places such as the Cathedral de Santa Maria del Mar, The Picasso Museum and The Sagrada Familia. In the movie "The Machinist" you can find a scene in the Tibidabo amusement park. There are also many movies with scenes in Barcelona that were never shown in cinemas. "El Embrujo de Shanghai" directed by F. Trueba is such a movie. One of the scenes in this movie was shot on the Moll de Fuste, a long wooden pier. Also movies that need a more tragic atmosphere are filmed in Barcelona in places like the cemetery of Montjuc and the Modelo prison.
