Ok...I must admit that I enjoy watching the As Seen On TV commercials. In fact, I may be sort of addicted to them because now my wife calls me into the room if one comes on that advertises a product heretofore unknown to mankind.

Nuisance Barking

Having dogs that love to bark, the BarkOff dog barking control unit seemed like every dog owner's dream come true. I mean, what could be better...having your dogs bark at intruders or emergency conditions such as fire while teaching them not to carry on with their nuisance barking precipitated by the flapping of butterfly wings.

Conventional Dog Barking Deprogramming

We've tried everything on Buster and Buddy. The yelling and throwing balled up towels at them didn't work. They learned that the towels were on the way and it was like playing dodge ball when we were kids. It was really a riot except the the dogs kept barking and I strained the ligaments in the shoulder of my pitching arm. We tried the barking collars that gave them a jolt whenever they barked. The trouble is that when Buddy barked, both he and Buster got shocked. It really didn't seem fair to either one, and certainly not very humane.

The BarkOff Method

So here comes the BarkOff commercial that advertises that you can stop dog barking just by interrupting their barking cycle with an ultrasonic signal. This signal, which is inaudible to humans, immediately gets the dog's attention and prompts him to quit barking. If you have an intruder, the dog's natural protective instincts take over and he'll keep barking. In other words, he will learn the difference between nuisance barking and protective barking and unlearn the habit of nuisance barking. The BarkOff is a battery powered, pocket size, hand held device that operates without a collar or wires and operates at the push of a button.

BarkOff In Use

So, for $17 (including shipping) we ordered the Bark Off. I had my doubts, but getting the dogs to stop barking would have been worth much more than the $17. When the BarkOff units came in, we waited until some unknown noise set Buster and Buddy off and pressed the button. Both dogs' ears perked up, they looked at each other, and quit barking. The wonders of modern science! We've since told our neighbor about BarkOff as she has a yappy little terrier. When our dogs began barking, her's would too and visa versa. Thanks to BarkOff, our section of the neighborhood has never been so quiet!
