Bill Bartmann Wealth Secrets: The Ten Steps to Set and Achieve Any Goal

Bill Bartmann used these ten steps to accomplish some pretty significant goals in his lifetime. These same ten wealth secrets work for everyone. Bill has shared these ten steps with thousands and thousands of his students and they too have had some remarkable results. These ten steps are simple, little things that, if applied, will make a significant transformation in your life. When you hear these, some are going to seem so simple that you might ask how they can possibly make a difference in your life. Well, they can and they do.

We know about the laws of physics, the law of attraction, the law of gravity, the law of polarity and the law of reciprocity. Well theres another law not very many people have heard of and its called the Law of Certainty. If you do certain things in a certain way, certain results are certain to occur. If you apply these simple elementary things to your life, youre going to be amazed at how your life will change. It is the simple things in life that make a difference.

The wealth secrets of the affluent and successful are simple, in fact they are so simple theyre elegantly simple, and most of the real truths in life are simple. Often we think in life that things have to be complex, complicated, hard to understand and hard to explain or they cant possibly have any value. But, in reality its exactly the other way around. Its the simple things in life that truly have the greatest meaning.

The secret to success is one of those abundantly obvious things that people just look past. Here it is; in order to be successful you have to be willing take risks. But most people are afraid to take risks because they are afraid that they are going to fail. Most people are afraid to fail because they are worried about what other people will think about them. Most people are afraid of what people think about them because they suffer from low self esteem.

So, the real wealth secret of success then is to find a way to increase your self esteem. Then, if you raise your self esteem you would be less concerned about what other people think about you, and if you werent concerned about what people will think about you, you would be less afraid of failure. If you were less afraid of failure, you would be more willing to take risks. If youre more willing to take risks, you are mathematically and exponentially going to increase your chances for success.

Think of some person who you think of as successful. Ask yourself if that person has high self esteem or low self esteem? That person has high self esteem. In order to be successful, you have to feel good about who you are, the way you are, and where you are. That is really the true definition of self esteem.

Bill Bartmann believes he is the authority on self esteem because hes lived it. Hes seen the face of both sides of self esteem. He saw the face of low self esteem as a child growing up in poverty. He saw it as a boy growing up in a rough, tough neighborhood where he got beat up almost every day. He saw it as a homeless 14 year old. He saw it as a kid that ran away a joined a traveling carnival. He saw it as a member of a street gang. He saw it as a high school dropout. He saw it as a teenage alcoholic. He saw it as a young man fired from his job and as a businessman whose business failed. He saw it as a husband and father who had to support his wife and two small daughters for an entire year on a $10,000 limit credit card. He saw it as the IRS towed away his car because I couldnt afford to pay my taxes. He saw it as he stood in front of bankruptcy court and watched them take away everything he had worked for and earned over the course of his entire life. He saw it as he contemplated the how, not the if of my own suicide.

By changing a few things about himself and the way he thought, and applying these same ten steps, Bill was able to make a significant transformation. Bill was able to go from a life of welfare and poverty to becoming the 25th wealthiest person in America. He was able to go from homeless to living in a 12,000 square foot home. These same things made enough of a difference that he went from a kid who ran away and joined a traveling carnival at the age of 14 to being named the National Entrepreneur of the Year twice by NASDAQ, USAToday and Ink Magazine. They put him on a list of the Top 100 Entrepreneurs of America. These steps have made a difference in Bills life and they will make a difference in yours. The first step is the most important, and thats why it is number one.

1. Make sure that any goal you are striving for is your goal and not somebody elses.

We all know people who give up their goals to make somebody else happy. Why would you sacrifice your life to make someone else happy when in reality, it wont make you happy or them happy. We should be doing the things we want to do, that one thing we are uniquely talented or gifted at. Those of us who think they want to make their parents or teachers happy know that you will make them happier by being the person you were meant to be. Whatever goal you are after, make sure it is your goal. George Bernard Shaw said it well, There are two sources of unhappiness in life; one is not getting what you want, the other is getting it. Make sure the goal you are after is your goal.

2. Dont call it a goal.

I have a degree in psychology and understand a bit about how the brain processes information. We know that it has a memory and associates meanings with words. Most of us, when we set a goal, will fail on occasion. Harvard Medical School did a study and they surveyed 10,000 people. They found out that the average American will fail at a stated goal 30% of the time. The good news is that 70% of the time we will hit it. But the 30% of the time when we miss goals, we know it. We know that the people we associate with and socialize with miss goals, too.

When the brain knows you missed goals and that the people around you have missed goals, it remembers that. As soon as you say youre setting a goal, your subconscious goes into your memory and checks to see what your history is. It finds that 30% of the time you missed your goal. Thats one reason people have so much trouble achieving goals, because our brain works against us. No matter how brave we are, we cant deny what our brain knows.

It knows there were times we didnt do as well as we said we were going to do. How do we shift that? How about if we substitute words? How about instead of calling it a goal, we call it a promise? When we make a promise, we intend to keep it. Harvard Medical School did a reverse study on the word promise. They took the same 10,000 people, surveyed them, and they did it exactly the way they did on the word goal. They found that these same people accomplished their goal 99% of the time when they called it a promise. It was the same thing, but their brain thought of it as a promise instead of a goal. Thats one of the wealth secrets of successgetting your brain to work with you instead of against you.

3. Clearly articulate your promise.

Be able to say it with a high degree of precision. You have to be able to see it with crystal clarity. We have to be able to state with absolute certainty and conviction what we really want. As an example, Bill Bartmann had a goal to become rich, but he didnt just want to be rich, he wanted to be filthy, stinking rich. But that was a loosely defined goal. So, he thought about it and redefined it so that if he became one of the 400 richest people in America, that would qualify. So, from that moment, that became his target. The more crystal you can describe it, the better it will be. Oftentimes when you ask people what they want, you hear I want to be rich or famous. Then, you ask how rich or famous they want to be. They dont know. You cant have it until you can see it in your minds eye and clearly articulate it.

4. You need to be able to identify your personal motivator.

People from ages past have set goals or promises and found they dont have enough continued motivation to keep going. One of the secrets and solutions to avoid that is to get a motivator to keep you moving forward even when its hard. Every one of us have two things that motivate us in general: A positive motivator or a negative motivator. Bill Bartmann has both. A positive motivator is someone you love or someone you want to accomplish something for to make their life better, to make them happier. A positive motivator is when you do something for someone.

A negative motivator is when you do something to show someone. Sometimes having someone tell you that you cant do something is the greatest motivator of all. You dont have to let that person know youre using them as a motivator.

5. Create a promise plan.

Bill has spent all of his life in the business world, and hes learned some things. Hes had some unique opportunities, plus hes had seven different businesses in seven different industries. One thing that is true of every successful business is that they have a business plan. When he learned that, he transferred it. If its true of business, why isnt it true of life? Why dont we have a plan for our life and what we want to do?

It becomes a promise plana plan to accomplish your promise. Hes come to learn that complicated things need to be simple and easy to explain; then people will follow them. Hes taken a business plan and shown business people how to turn it into a thin document that will clearly explain what you are trying to do in your business. He transferred this process from the business world to his personal goals.

If you have a great business plan and a great promise plan, you only need to ask and answer some simple questions: What, where, why, when, and how. You already know most of the answers.

Clearly define the what, where, why, and when and let the how come to you over time. The last thing is that you have to be able to review the promise plan on a regular basis. Bill asks his students to take that sheet of paper and review it 20 minutes a day. By reading this sheet of paper and focusing on it for 20 minutes a day, youre telling your brain this isnt ordinary, that you are really committed to it. Youre really telling your brain this is important and relevant. What a wonderful signal to send to your brain. Remember, getting your brain to help you, rather than hinder you, is magic.

6. Review your promise on a regular basis.

Your promise is that first linewhat it is you want to do. Some common ways to do that is to use a 5 x 7 index card to serve as another reminder of how important this is to you. You might also want to think about using a picture of what you want. Pictures also work very well.

Another technique you can use is a thing called a Pocket Promise. Bill Bartmann, for example, carries it in his pocket every single day. On the front of the card are the words Pocket Promise. On the back is his promise. In the course of the day, every time he puts his hand in his pocket, it sends a signal to Bills brain of that promise. Even when he doesnt think about it, it sends a subconscious message to his brain. Every night, he empties his pockets and sees it and touches it again. Every morning, he picks it up and puts it back in his pocket again. Every day, he reminds himself several times of what is important to him.

7. You must tell yourself that you will succeed.

What we believe inside will manifest anything. If you cant imagine it, it will not happen. Henry Ford said, Whether you think you can or whether you think you cant, youre right. Find a way to speak to yourself. The voice you should listen to is the voice inside of you. It knows when youve done things wrong, but it also knows that youve done more things right. You have to tell yourself that you believe in yourself.

Use positive affirmations about yourself. What have you done? What are you good at? Find that out and tell yourself those things. Listen to the voice inside yourself. Talk to yourself and remember the good youve accomplished and remind yourself of it.

8. You have to tell others about your promise.

We know its okay to fail if nobody knows. Success requires commitment. Youve got to be able to get in the game. When you tell someone else what you want to do before you do it, it raises the level of commitment and effort and energy youre going to put in. Telling others does three things:

When you tell someone what you want to do, they can help you. We cant expect them to be mind readers and guess it. If we tell them, if they can, perhaps they will help us. The second thing that could happen is theyll laugh at us or tell us we cant do that. Good. Let them be a motivator for you. The third thing is that when we tell people what we want, we learn to articulate it clearly. Telling other people teaches you how to say it quickly and crisply. By telling other people, any one of these three things can happen, and one of them will happen.

9. You need to be able to envision the result.

You have to be able to imagine how it will be when you get there. Every one of us is already doing this, imagining things that have not yet occurred. We put a negative conclusion to it; its called worry. When we worry, we can hear, see, and feel exactly what will happen. It usually doesnt, because its imaginary. If theres a thing called worry, why cant we do the opposite and imagine a result which has not yet occurred which has a positive conclusion? Its saying what you really expect out of life and what you want to happen. You can see how it works.

10. Take action.

We can make the greatest plans in the world, but if we dont get off the couch, its not going to happen. Theres a movie and a book called The Secret. Its great and they did a great job, but theres one thing they should have emphasized more. That is this step. You have to take action. You cant sit on the couch and wish for something and it will happen. Its not enough to see a picture, a pocket promise or anything. You have to do something. Take all of the steps weve been through and get off the couch and do something to make it happen. You cant wait for somebody to come and do your heavy lifting. We have people in our life who love and care for us, but none of them can carry us. We have to carry ourselves. If we really want to get ahead in life, we have to do step ten. We have to take all of these steps which preceded it and then take action. Bill Bartmann has used these ten wealth secrets to accomplish some things which are pretty remarkable. Thousands and thousands of his students have also done the very same things. Until you do something, nothing can happen.
