Baseball award symbolizes the pinnacle of a player's success. But these awards are not limited to just players. Baseball awards honor extra ordinary performances of all people who are associated with the game in one way or the other.

Over the years, the categories of awards have increased tremendously. Initially it was limited only to the best players. But later as different categories came up, the scope of the award widened. Apart from finding out the most valuable player, the game started recognizing the great work done by players in each area of the game. Categories are created for the best hitter, pitcher, catcher and for the defensive player. Newcomer of the year award is also created for encouraging the budding talent. Now various leagues bestow award on team executives, coaches and writers.

It's up to the organizers of the tournament to decide on the categories of the award to be given.

The criteria for selecting players for awards is different for various tournaments. Organizers have all the right to decide on the awardees. Some of the awards will be decided by a jury of experts where as some will be decided by hundreds of fans through voting. But for some prestigious awards like the award given by the Major League Baseball, fixed procedure is followed

Most valuable player award, the award given to an outstanding player is one of the most prestigious awards. Almost every baseball tournament will choose a player for the award. Most valuable player award given by Major League Baseball is highly respected among the baseball players. Annually it is presented by the Baseball Writers Association of America. Rookie of the year is another famous award. This is rewarded annually to a player who has the credit of best performance, in their first professional season.

Most of these awards are given in a beautifully arranged award ceremony and it gives extra beauty to the award.
