Basic Fishing Survival Kit For Any Emergency
I hate to be cliche, but the age old Chinese Proverb says that if you give a man a fish and you feed him for a day
. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. So true! If you plan on going on a trip and you will be by any type of water that will include fish, it's important that you have some kind of a survival fishing kit with you. These kits are pretty small and compact - basic as basic gets. But, they will help you survive which is the intended use anyway. These kits, for the most part can be generalized as being durable, well-stocked and incredibly high quality.
Basically, the fishing kit was manufactured for a collaborative effort between avid fishermen and survivalists. So it pretty much goes without saying that this is a kit that will get the job done. While a lot of the bigger survival kit brand name companies like Adventure Medical Kits and Tactical Medical Solutions may not have these very basic kits, they do have bigger survival kits that will include some of the gear you will see in the basic option. So it depends on you whether you buy this individually or if you buy the whole shebang.
The basic kit that you buy on your own, will usually come in some sort of a can or tin that is small enough to fit inside your pocket. Some of these kits may also include Silica Gel Desiccant inside the kit in order to keep the gear moisture and water free. This quality kit includes the most used items, in sufficient quantities for emergency food gathering (survival fishing). The items may include: (1) Swirl Tail Grub, (1) Tiny Shad, (2) 1/16 Unpainted Round, Salmon Eggs, (1) Size 10 1/8 fly, (1) Moisture Absorbing Packet, Hooks #4, #6 and $8, (1) Wire Wound Leaders, Split Shot BB as well as 3/0, a Tooth Pick Float Bobber and of course 50 ft of line.
It includes everything you need from jig to jig head to bait to fly to hooks, leaders and line. What else do you need? All in all this is a pretty "fly" basic survival kit. But, if you really want to be prepared, it's important that you not only have a survival kit, but a first aid kit as well. Even if you are an avid fisherman, you can still have an accident when it comes to fishing (hooks) and if you are out in the middle of nowhere and an accident happens, god forbid, you won't be able to get help. Be prepared, even if it seems silly to. You can find these kits just about anywhere. I even saw one on the Martha Stewart website!
