Here is a list of some mailroom equipment you will need to make sure you are ready for success.

Space: Space planning is very important when setting up your area where all of the mailroom equipment will be. You will need to have a space to work and a place for the equipment. You will also need to see to it that you have space for all of the supplies that are used to created, mail and receive information to and from your business. Cabinets of some sort are a good idea.

Letter Openers: Electronic openers make a great tool for your office. You can expedite opening and disbursing the mail easily and efficiently. Check out if this would be a valuable tool for you and your office.

Supplies: Once you have the space for your stuff then the supplies are ordered. You will have a lot of different needs depending on what type of business you operate. You may need a lot of paper, therefore a hand truck would be beneficial. You may have to distribute a lot of mail to others therefore a cart would be a good investment.


Postal Machine: Getting what you need and having it all in place is a good thing. But you will need a way to mail it. This involves postage. A postal meter will make it great to order and print out your envelopes in one swoop or print out a label for larger mailings.

Scale: If your postal machine does not have a scale on it then you will need to get a separate one for your use. This will ensure that you know the proper postage to place on your mailings. Guessing will waste money and look unprofessional. There are scales for different weights and you may need one for packages and another for boxes.

Paper Folding Machine: If you do a lot of mailings for your company business you may want to consider getting a folding machine. In the long run it saves a lot of time and man hours in folding the paper as opposed to paying someone to do it that could be doing something else more productive. They are worth the investment if you are going to be doing a lot of mailings.
