Be True To Yourself When Being Creative

There is always a saying in life that you have to be true to yourself in whatever you do

. This is absolutely right and is the same for whether you are engaged in a trade, looking for a new career, involved in a hobby or when out socially. You have to do what looks and feels right for yourself. It is so easy sometimes to look at the way someone else acts or does things and try to copy. The result is usually a let-down and it will show in whatever it is you are trying to achieve. You may also make a fool of yourself and let yourself down.

This idea of being yourself and acting accordingly is very true when it comes to any kind of creativity or artistic talent. It is definitely true in jewellery making. With this in mind it may be the best idea not to completely follow fashion as this can lead to a no through road and it is surprising the number of people who do not think of jewellery as a fashion item. By far the most wearers of jewellery will wear something because it suits them and they like the look and feel of it, rather than because the magazines or media says it is the latest thing.

So what do you create in jewellery making? The best advice is to use your skills and talent to make things that you would typically wear yourself. Most people do not buy jewellery in the way they buy clothes, throwing out bits and pieces after they have worn them a lot and got tired of them. With adornments and jewels, they tend to find something they would like to pass on to children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Of course, that is not to say you just sit down and churn out any old thing, simply because it takes your fancy. You do have to watch the seasons, especially in Britain because the colours are so gloriously different in nature with the changing seasons. It may sound odd, but the weather in Great Britain does have a huge influence on our emotions and what we wear. So adapt your own tastes in your jewellery making to fit in with the changing seasons. For example, black is hardly the colour that is going to entice buyers in the middle of August. Yet offer a beaded black necklace just before the Christmas party season and you could be sparkling. In the warmer months produce items in coral, turquoise and emerald.
