Today's modern camper wants to experience living for a weekend or even a week or

two in the great out of doors but, still wants to maintain a certain level of creatures comforts. In order to meet these growing desires, manufacturers have developed all kinds of portable outdoor living items designed to appeal to those who like a tiny bit of luxury while living in a tent. These items range from solar powered lanterns to camping ovens, to air couches. However, the greatest luxury of all are the beds for camping.

While sleeping pads and air mattresses give you a means of having a reasonably comfortable night sleep a camping bed can make you feel as though you are sleeping at home instead of in a tent. Camping beds run the gambit from air filled camping beds that are basically a double high air mattress that sits directly on the ground to real camping cots designed specifically for larger camping tents.

Using a camping bed turns your tent into your own portal retreat that can be placed almost anywhere. While these beds for camping can lift you way off the cold, damp and hard ground and give you a wonderful nights sleep there are a few things you need to consider before rushing out and buying one.

The Type Of Camping Experience You Want

The type of camping you plan on doing is going to make a big difference in the type of camping bed you choose to purchase. For example if you are planning on a backpacking camping holiday then you are going to want your backpack to be as light as possible. An added 4 or 10 pounds of weight to carry is not going to make your camping trip very enjoyable so might want to purchase something a bit lighter than a camping cot or a king size air bed.

However, if you plan on car camping and are planning on camping somewhere where you can pull your car or truck right into the campsite and want the comfort of a large airbed or camping cot why not go for it? There is nothing that says you have to suffer to enjoy a few days living in the great out of doors.

Consider Your Tent Size

Of course even if you are car camping at a convenient location, you still have to consider your actual tent size. If you are using a small two or three person tent for your camping trip there simply won't be enough space in the tent for both you and a king size air mattress or camping cot. So when, choosing beds for camping make sure the bed you chose will actually fit into the tent or you just may find you are truly sleeping in the great out of doors.

Other Considerations

Some other things you want to consider when choosing a camping bed is how easy they are to put up and take down, their durability and of course their price. With so many different camping beds to choose from it is simple to find one that meets your needs so go ahead, take a look and enjoy the outdoors and a great nights sleep too!
