Beginner's Guide - What Are The Things You Need In Your Golf Set?
So finally you made up your mind to start playing golf
. If you are really into playing this game, then the first thing that you will need is golf clubs. Golf clubs are not a place just like the club houses that are present in any subdivision and the like. Instead, golf clubs are the sticks that you will need to hit the golf ball towards your target - the hole.
There are five types of golf clubs and each type has its own unique function on the golf course. The five types of golf clubs are the woods, irons, wedges, putters and hybrids. However, for this article, let us discuss about buying your first golf iron.
Here are some essential tips for you to remember in buying your first golf iron:
The frequency or number of times that you will be playing golf is essential in buying any of materials that you will need for a game. If you think you can play only once or twice a year, then you might as well consider borrowing from your friends or buying second hand golf irons. However, if you don't have problem with budget, then you can buy top-of-the-line equipment.
Golf clubs are really expensive. Or to put it another way, playing golf is really expensive. Well, of course there's an exception if you are ultra rich and spending money is your hobby.
A shaft that is good for you can increase your distance and accuracy whereas a poorly suited shaft can lead to wayward shots. You can choose a shaft that is made up of graphite (for a softer and more flexible shaft) or steel (for stiff flex). - Your height and your arm are also two things that you must consider in choosing the shaft of your golf iron. Again, the result will give you the length of the shaft of your golf club.
You can ask your friends or anyone that you know who plays golf for suggestions. There is different equipment used in playing golf, and among those are the different clubs that are present in your golf set. Moreover, your golf set can have a number of 14 to 16 clubs all in all. For a beginner like you, it will be better to start with a few clubs in order for you to familiarize each club better.
Before you go to some golf retail shops, you should first know what your golf set should have inside. To say it, your golf set should have these clubs: irons, woods, wedges, putters and hybrids. Most golf club sets will contain these clubs (14 to 16):
Irons 2-7 (6 clubs)
Woods 3, 5, and 7 (3 clubs)
A driver (1 club)
A pitching wedge and sand wedge (2 clubs)
A hybrid
A putter
Irons are usually used for short shots. There are also two types of irons: the cavity back blade and the forged blade clubs. Moreover, you should also use a graphite shaft for your irons since it helps in having greater accuracy. On the other hand, stiffer shafts are more of a pro's iron.
While if you are aiming for longer shots, you can use the woods and/or the drivers since these clubs were engineered for that purpose. Most professionals also have different types of putters in their golf set which they use based upon their recent games, as well as other conditions. Moreover, there are four types of putters but most golf sets only have one putter in it. Professional golfers usually carry about two wedges which are basically a pitching wedge and a sand wedge.
For a beginner, a hybrid set where the long irons (-3 and -4) are replaced with utility club design, may be the perfect choice.
