Being Overweight Increases Health Risks
We all would like to live a healthy, well and long life. The experts tell us though if we carry excess fat on our body though, we may be setting ourselves up for a shorter span of life than the one we would wish for. As two thirds of the world population is overweight to varying degrees we need to become more aware of the health risks it presents. This excess body fat can not be thought of as just a cosmetic issue as it is directly linked to many of the most common diseases. Heart disease, cancer and diabetes are just the tip of the iceberg and there are dozens of others that threaten us. In fact the more excess fat you have on your body the higher your risk of leaving this world well before your time.So we may ask why do the majority of us seem to find it so easy to pack on the pounds of fat and at the same time lose the features that define our youthfulness - strength, vigor, vitality, immunity, memory, loss of energy, skin tone and memory? All of these negative declines are mostly because we have lost our lean muscle mass. This mass is the engine of our body - one that controls our overall metabolic rate (the rate we process food into energy and other important body processes that keep us alive) and its loss is the primary cause of premature aging. When we rebuild lost muscle and reactivate our metabolism we increase energy production (we burn more calories) and in the process we burn fat faster and more efficiently. The maintenance of our muscular system not only means increased strength and energy but also less stress, stronger bones and joints, better mood, enhanced immunity (protection from disease), better sleep and enhanced brain function. We can also expect better mental and emotional health and of course the chance to live not only a longer life but a higher quality one as well. The message we can take home is that staying healthy as we get older is controlled largely by your metabolism, and, in turn, your metabolism is controlled by your muscle tissue and whether you do enough muscle building and maintaining activity. As we no longer have any natural work to challenge our muscles in our modern day life and sit for most of the 16 hours that we are awake we need to put back intentional proper exercise to keep ourselves healthy. Strength training exercise that directly works our muscles through their ranges of movement under a load needs to be done just 2-3 times each week to achieve this. It is so effective and if done correctly with a bit of effort put it you do not need much of it.With your strength training you will be getting at the heart of the reason why you have become overweight. When you have rebuilt lost muscle and are burning more fuel each day and night your body fat will gradually reduce and the health risks of being overweight will disappear with it.
