When you enter a road, whether in a car, biking or walking
, safety should be your number one concern. There are many things you should keep in mind as you drive as there are many things that could compromise your safety and your life.
The first thing you should always is keep your doors locked. You do not want doors flying open either on their own or by someone else when you are moving.
This could be especially dangerous for your children. It is not uncommon for a child to wriggle out of his or her seat belt when he or she is tired of driving and try to throw open the door.
If the doors are lock you will at least notice your child's antics and you will be able to pull over before you child falls out of your moving vehicle. In addition, it is critical that you and the passengers in the car wear your seat belt at all times.
This helps make sure that your child and yourself are safe during a collision, if an accident occurs or simply in general. In addition, you will not be subject to a fine if a policeman pulls you over.
Be sure that any child safety seats are also properly installed using a seat belt. This is one instance where it is okay and even encouraged to tie your child down.
Another good safety precaution is that you never let your car fall below 1/3 tank of gas. This makes sure that when there is an emergency you can take off without worrying about gas.
In addition, if you are always aware of where you level of gas is at, you will never run out on the free way or in other locations. It can be a huge pain to have to call someone or to have to walk to get gas.
The third thing you should make sure you do is stay on the main roads. You will not get lost to horribly if you stay on these roads.
Getting lost is less common than it used to be with the availability of GPS systems. However, in some remote areas, GPS systems have been known to fail.
Make sure you have a backup plan by storing some good, traditional maps in your car. With these maps you will never get lost.
In addition, it is less likely you will get robbed if you stick to the main highways. On occasion, people who have broken down on the side of a lonely, somewhat abandoned road have been taken advantage of.
It is also a very good idea to have an emergency kit stored in your car in case something happens and you have to stay the night in the car. It can also come in handy if someone becomes injured during the day.
This emergency kit should include a flashlight, blanket, first-aid kit, extra clothing and/or coat, food and water. The food that you pack should be non-perishable so that you do not have to keep replacing it all of the time.
Fruit or granola bars are a great, but cheap, non-perishable food item that keep well in your car. Be sure to replace these food items every once in a while however.
The fifth thing you should do is always go to the restroom with your children. Be sure to lock the car doors when you go, even if it is going to be short.
You do not want to get stranded at a random rest stop because you neglected to lock the car doors. It is important to go to the restroom with your children because children have been kidnapped from those areas before.
There are plenty of people who would not think twice about harming them when they are alone. However, you can protect them.
It is also a very good idea to store an extra cell phone in the car that is always fully charged. It can be quite easy to forget to charge your daily cell phone.
Unfortunately, this has led to a lot of stories about people who were stranded somewhere with a means for communication. Do not let yourself end up in this predicament.
Many people do not know that it is a bad idea to stop and help someone who is on the side of the road. On occasion, these people have been putting up a ploy in order to rob someone.
However, there are many people who do need help. Instead, call a professional to come and help them.
