Blogging For Business Owners - What Do You Need For a Successful Business Blog
?
You'd have to had your head stuck in the ground if you hadn't heard about blogging on the internet by now. But if you run a business, you may be wondering whether blogging for your business is the right thing to do. Here's some reasons why you should consider running a business blog.
1. It's cheap to do
All you need is a domain (which you've likely already got), a web site host (again, likely you've got this) and the free WordPress blog software. Don't panic about WordPress being free - it's top quality software that's better maintained than a lot of commercial software you'd pay an arm and a leg for. And because it's so universally used, if you do encounter a problem there's a lot of affordable help to get you out of a hole.
2. It's easy to use
The most complicated part of blogging for business is typing things into something that looks suspiciously like an online version of Microsoft Word. The text editor in WordPress takes care of all the formatting you might need. It also makes adding pictures and other things to your blog a piece of cake. All you need to do is find where you've stored the picture on your hard drive (that's probably the most complicated part as where Windows stores files is a mystery to most of us) and then click to get the file to upload. All the stuff people normally get wrong like file names, where the file is located, etc is taken care of automatically. Anyone in your office who can use an internet browser can create a blog post.
3. It's great for getting your site noticed
Regularly updating things on your website gets the robots that explore the web for Google in a state of excitement. They're even hungrier for new content than humans are. And blog programs like WordPress have a built in system (called pinging) that lets the robots know whenever something changes. This feature alone will help you to get your company's blog noticed more in the search engines.
4. It allows customer interaction
You can set up a contact form on your blog in a few clicks. No complicated things to learn. It just plain works - which is a lot better than the complicated stuff most website designers would like to charge you an arm and a leg for. You can also allow - or disallow - commenting on your website content. Depending on your business, this could be done to encourage testimonials or develop your frequently asked questions section so that customers are more likely to choose your business.
5. It gives you control
If you've ever had problems with your website designer doing things that should be simple but seem to take weeks or even months before they get fixed, running your own business blog will be a dream come true. Anyone in your business with even the slightest computer knowledge can keep your business blog - and therefore your business website - up to date.
