Blood Pressure Overview

Blood Pressure Introduction

Blood Pressure Introduction

Blood pressure (BP) is the pressure that is exerted upon the blood vessels by the blood that is in circulation in the body. It contributes to some of the vital signs of life in human beings like breathing, heartbeat and temperature of the body. The measurement of the BP, also defined as the systemic arterial pressure, occurs at the brachial artery which is found at the inside a persons elbow. The brachial artery is the major blood vessel in the upper arm and which carries blood away from the heart. Normal BP range refers to the ideal blood pressure range of a healthy and fit individual. This may however vary also in people depending on the body system and age.

What is the desired BP range?

The blood pressure range of children is always not the same as the one for those who are past the age of onwards. Individuals aged between 20-40 have a BP range of 120mmHg systolic pressure and diastolic pressure of 80mm Hg that is considered their normal BP and is represented as 120/80. Systolic pressure, which is represented by the upper figures (120), represents the pressure in the arteries, which is exerted as the heart muscles contract to pump blood into them. Diastolic BP, which is represented by the lower number (80) refers to the pressure in the arteries exerted when the heart relaxes after contraction. For any healthy person, this is the recommended range for them but it would not be so bad though, if it were to go slightly below or above. However, a range that is higher than this would be signs of high blood pressure, which might be putting the individual at very high risk of stroke and other heart diseases.

Can the normal BP range shift?

Keeping your BP level at optimal level is advisable and you need to keep eating and living a healthy life to be able to maintain it at the normal range, which is 120/80. However this level might shift in other people to about 140/80, even though at this level it would not be referred to as high you should try to bring it down because that is a sign that it might rise even more thus putting you at risk. Even if you cannot be able to bring it down easily but you need to try as much so that it does not go beyond that level. There are various natural ways you can use but also it is advisable that you consult your doctor on the best ways to help keeping your blood pressure level at normal. Remember that the higher your blood pressure, the greater the risks, a person with a BP level of 135/85 is considered as twice as likely to develop heart problems as one with a blood pressure level of 115/75.

Having your BP far much lower than this ideal range could also be hazardous for men, women and children, and it could lead to low flowing blood to the arteries and veins. When the blood flow is slow, it means that oxygen and food nutrients are not supplied to the brain, kidney and the heart. Whenever these vital organs do not these, they are bound to get damaged or fail to function properly.

What are the benefits of Normal Blood Pressure?

Keeping your BP level at the ideal range could be beneficial to you in several ways like:

a) The greater the BP, the greater the pressure exerted on the blood walls and might make them to wear out easily so if you maintain your blood pressure level at normal you are likely to have a prolonged life without constant trauma on blood vessels.

b) With a normal BP range, you are unlikely to get stroke, which is caused by high BP and can paralyze half or even the whole body.

c) Normal blood pressure level helps you to eliminate wastes easily from the body considering the fact that high blood pressure damages blood vessels in the kidneys where elimination of wastes occur.

Generally, it is important that one lead a healthy life away from any risks that might lead to high or low blood pressure. This includes eating healthy diets, doing exercise frequently and maintaining medical check ups. You can also consult medics online in case you are experiencing difficulties.
