During the first few months of 2007, a survey was conducted by the Home Research Media. The findings of the survey were that the blu ray movies sale was almost double compared to the High Definition DVD's in USA. The main competitor of blue ray disks is High Definition DVD disks.

According to the Home Media Magazine the sale of High Definition DVD's during the first six months was about seven hundred and ninety five thousand, but the sale of blue ray disks are bigger than high definition DVD's. The sale of blu ray disks during the first six months was about 1.6 million.

The Sony Company actually developed and introduced the blu ray technology. Keeping in view the increasing blue ray disks popularity, most of the studios are releasing their movies in blu ray format or both in blue ray and High definition DVD format.

As compared to the other DVD formats, the blue ray format gives the audience more brighter and sharper picture. The blue ray disks also offer high recording capacity. This blue ray's high capacity helps to add interactive features and games as well along with the film. The Toshiba Corporation introduced the high definition DVD disk.

The market share of blue ray disk is rapidly increasing. The new blu ray disks are giving tough time to the HD-DVD's. The major rival of the high definition DVD disks is the blue ray disks. Wal Mart decided that their top most preference will be the blue ray disks during the start of 2008. It is because of their increasing sales and popularity.

In the 1970''s the competition between blu ray and HD-DVD is almost similar to the VHS and betamax. Considering the increasing popularity of Blue ray disks, majority of the most Stores of United States decided to increase their high definition stock with Blue ray disks almost up to 75%.

The Blue ray disks format has benefit over other DVD formats because of it is higher capacity to store data. The High Definition DVD disk has storage capacity of about 30GB and is working to increase the capacity to 45GB.

While on the other hand the blue ray disks can store up to 50GB and development is being done to increase its storage capacity to 200GB. The consumers mostly focus on the DVD disk with higher recording capacity that is where the blu-ray disk has captured most of the high definition market share.

The other reasons that made the blue ray disks more popular were the support from the major studios like the Lionsgate, Disney, Sony, etc. The Sony Play Station also backed the blu ray technology and also the gamers showed their interest in this blu ray format. So, many gamer are willing to spend more dollars to buy the new blu-ray DVD disks.

These drives are known as the dual format DVD players. NEC, Sony, and LG are the companies that are manufacturing these dual format players. It is really amazing as Sony is the main supporter of the blu ray technology. The Sony Company manufacturing the dual format players could be because of the Sony does not want to lose in the competition of DVD formats.
