All laptop computers come with a built-in battery to keep it powered on without the need of a connection to an outlet. The charge life on these batteries is limited to a couple of hours, so charging a laptop battery is a must for continued performance of laptop mobility.
1.Drain the battery as much as possible--the less charge on the battery the better. A cell charge from zero to full will increase the battery's load cycle consistency then if you charged from only half way.
2.Connect the laptop's adapter into the computer. This peripheral accessory keeps the computer running when the laptop battery is out of power and charges a depleted battery supply.
3.Wait for the laptop battery to fully charge. Typically an icon on your computer will indicate that the battery is charging. You can still use the computer during this state, but it will recharge faster if you turn off your computer.
4.Monitor the progress of your battery charge by checking the laptop's battery application. This will tell you information such as the amount of time needed for a full charge and the level to which the battery has been charged. Typically the battery application will mount itself on your task bar with an icon measuring your battery level. This can be right clicked to access other features such as battery output and energy saver.
5.Remove the laptop ac adapter--if you plan on running through the fully charged battery again--or the battery itself to run your laptop through the adapter. In either cases, this prevents the battery from becoming overcharged and lose its maximum charge potential under future load cycles.
Then how to extend laptop battery life
1. Use the correct recharging procedure for your laptop. Only use the power cord that came with your laptop or an authorized replacement.
2. Follow correct maintenance for your battery when not in use. Don't leave it in direct sunlight, areas where it will be exposed to extreme temperatures such as car trunks.
3. Use your laptop's power management features. The system will run at lower processor speeds when enabling power management features and it will go into "sleep" mode faster when inactive.
4. Buy batteries with internal processors such as dell Inspiron 1525 battery, dell Inspiron 1526 battery, Dell HP297 battery.
5. Non Li-Ion battery must be fully discharged and then recharged every 2-3 weeks.
6. If you don't use your laptop for a period of time, you must fully discharge then recharge the battery.
