Boca Raton Jeep News: Upgraded Engine Brings New Interest

Its not a bird! Its not a missile! It did used to be the Phoenix

, but now it will be known as the Pentastar. The new Chrysler engine, which will debut in the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee in July, is being manufactured in Trenton, Michigan.

Boca Raton Jeep dealers are revved up (okay, bad pun) about this new engine for good reason. The first version displaced 3.6 liters and is all aluminum. The Pentastar is a60-degree and has a dual-overhead cam with variable valve timing. It will be put in place of seven V6 engines now used by Chrysler.

Boca Raton 2011 Jeep buyers will be impressed with the 280 horsepower, an increase of 22 percent over the last Grand Cherokee engine and the 6,400 rpm. More power but not less efficient. We are all happy about that with the fuel dilemmas our country faces.

In fact, the Pentastar will be 11 percent more efficient fuel-wise than its predecessor. It will run on E85 or 87 octane gas. In order to build this engine, Chrysler invested $730 million in the Trenton manufacturing plant, an 822,000-square-foot factory which Chrysler predicts will crank out more than 400,000 engines each year.

Okay, so the Grand Cherokees engine will be more powerful yet more efficient. The best of both worlds and a true boost to the SUV class, which has received a bad rap for several years due to fuel inefficiency. Boca Raton Jeep dealers may even see an expanded market for the SUV with an increase in the mileage numbers.

Speaking of numbers, definite price points for the Grand Cherokee have not been released yet, but I believe that with the increase in sales numbers Chrysler has seen this SUV, new engine and all, will be kept in an affordable price range.

Time will tell, but I predict the numbers for the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the other models which eventually house the Pentastar engine will sport some good-looking numbers and further boost Chrysler sales figures.

For those Boca Raton 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee fans, the Pentastar will be that extra incentive to buy the SUV youve been wanting with much less guilt and much more enjoyment. For dealers it may open up a new market. For those of us just wanting a reliable engine to haul the family around and do a little recreational driving on the weekends, the Pentastar will be our shining star.

By allowing the Phoenix to be reborn as the Pentastar Chrysler is showing insight into what its customers want and being sensitive to their economic and ecological concerns all in one phenomenal engine. It sounds like we really will feel a difference in this engines power and performance and see the difference at the gas pump.
