Boost Sales With Shopping Baskets
The shopping scenario has changed drastically over the last couple of decades. Earlier we had to visit several shops for purchasing different categories of items. But now with the concept of one-stop shop life has not only become easier but the shopping experience too has evolved into a far more enriched and fulfilling one to say the least.
Now the shopper can take pleasure in purchasing goods of daily necessities as well. Previously pleasure shopping mostly referred to luxury items like expensive furniture, gifts, decorative pieces, bath fittings, apparels etc. But now with choices galore, buying things of regular use like vegetables, fruits, breads, toiletries, salad dressings, ranch, snacks, drinks both alcoholic and non-alcoholic etc, has become a happy and pleasurable experience. And this happy shopping experience always means repeat customers for retailers.
So with this transition, certain things have also undergone changes. Prior to the 'Great Depression' there were mostly shopping bags which were said to have been invented by Walter. H. Deubner who was the owner of an old-style grocery store in St Paul, Minnesota. In order to give his business that much needed boost, he came up with this invention. It was actually the result of a lot of observation. Initially Deubner noticed that people very easily grew tired of buying things due to the inconvenience of carrying them around the shop. The right solution took four years to strike a chord with him. Finally he came up with a paper bag that was not only inexpensive and easy to use but also very sturdy at the same time. Deubner got his product patented and by 1915, the sale of shopping bags skyrocketed. Slowly with time, when the demands increased further, these shopping bags had to be replaced with wicker baskets which were soon followed by wire baskets.
The modifications in the shopping bags continued in a spree to increase further sales which led to the invention of shopping carts with wheels. Sylvan Goldman from Oklahoma City is credited with the invention of shopping carts. He was the owner of a chain of supermarkets in Oklahoma City called Humpty Dumpty. But unlike the previous versions, shopping carts really took a lot of time to catch on. Finally Goldman hired male and female models who went around the shops with these carts demonstrating and explaining to people how useful they were. Soon people began to realize their utilities and after that it was no looking back for Goldman and he soon became a millionaire.
The first shopping carts were designed in such a way so that they could be folded and stacked. But the modern ones are crafted to nest within each other in a row. This makes collecting and moving many at a time easier and also saves storage space. The modern carts which are a combination of metal and plastic come in various sizes. They are fitted with four wheels. Most American carts have swivel wheels at the front, while the rear wheels are fixed in orientation, while in Europe and some parts of Canada, it is more common to have four swivel wheels. But despite the advent of these carts, folding shopping carts are still in great demand.
As you know shopping carts are meant for bulk purchases. But if you are in a mood for making moderate purchases then the shopping carts become a headache having to push them through the crowded aisles. So is there no better way to make the moderate purchases hassle free? Yes here comes the hand held shopping baskets whichare an alternative to the shopping carts. They are very handy given the fact that they can be carried to any part of the store without having to negotiate a crowd. Unlike earlier ones, shopping baskets are now made of metal and plastic and are very useful for people living alone who don't have to make bulk purchases. Or if you are shopping in the middle of the week, you probably don't require a cart to carry your items in. In these instances a hand held shopping basket comes really handy. But one thing you must remember. Since the baskets are hand held, after making only a few purchases, they tend to become very heavy. This reduces the probability of customers going for too many purchases.
So to make things easier, now there are shopping baskets with wheels. They have a greater capacity to carry merchandise compared to a normal basket and also cruise along smoothly. As you know the ultimate purpose of a retailer is to augment sales, hence when customers stay in the store for longer browsing through variety of items, the chances of sale automatically go up by leaps and bounds.
The retailer can buy shopping baskets from a plethora of merchants and one of them is Specialty Store Services. They have a wide range of shopping baskets that come in different colors and designs. You can browse through the items and select your pick that suit your needs and purposes best.
