Branding yourself
Whether you are an artist, a musician, run a home-based business, or own any business - it really doesn't matter. You've got to always ask yourself the following: Why would people follow me? What have I got to offer that's different from anybody else out there?
You see, like any business out there, your name should become your brand. And with social media sites like facebook and twitter this has become a whole lot easier. If you can share your expertise freely with people that are interested in your specific field, you are well on your way to establishing yourself as someone with strong leadership qualities. Leaders attract followers that's a fact!
Once you've established enough trust with your followers they are much more likely to buy from YOU than from someone who's doing a run-of-the-mill sales pitch.
Let's use me as an example. On social media sites, I follow blogs and profiles of people from who I can learn. I enjoy people who are out there, who have struggled, and found solutions. They inspire me. Their amazing stories motivate me.
Do you have a story?
Jonathan Budd uses this analogy that really struck a chord with me.
Creating High Perceived Value Internet Real Estate
- If you showed up to a guy who lives in a trailer park who wants to teach you how to make money how credible would you feel he is?
- If another man offered to teach you how to make money and you found out he lived in a beach front mansion would you feel he is more credible?
- What if it's THE SAME GUY, but the only difference was the "real estate".
Which one is going to sway you more?
Now some of you might think that I mean you have to own a mansion to gain people's trust but that's not the point at all! This is not at all what I'm getting at. Most of us have a web presence whether it's your websites, blog, facebook pages, fan pages, twitter accounts. This is part of your internet Real Estate. This is where to build your brand. This is your mansion. Build your mansion with love and respect.
As you build your brand, ask yourself these five questions:
Is your name known by many people?
Is your name associated with high end value?
3. Does your name stand for authority?
Is your name associated with credibility?
Does your name contribute as a selling point for your products, services or business?
So when branding yourself on the internet, your website should be clean, don't clutter.
Keep it editorial. Give your visitors your perspective. Create a space where you impart your knowledge to your followers.
Always bear in mind that you have 3 to 5 seconds to capture you visitor's attention. It shouldn't be confusing for them when they land on your page.
And if you are starting off and you don't think you have much value to give. Stop worrying about this.
There are always people that will know less than you and those are the people you want to capture. They can learn from you and they'll be thankful for your insights. As you learn simply share what you are learning.
You don't need to be a Bill Gates to add worth.
Remember: NO one starts off being successful!
If you learn something every day and share what you learn you are building that mansion one brick at a time.
