Breaking Grammar Rules: How To Do It Right

In writing, it is important to use the correct grammars in order to make your writings more readable and understandable and not being like a total idiot in the field of writing. There are a lot of grammar rules that needs to be followed and you should always take note whether you had break some of its rules or not.

There are times that we unconsciously break some grammar rules in writing due to catching our running ideas and when we are in a hurry. Even expert and professional writers break some of these grammar rules. But then, they always read their piece all over again for them to determine any technical errors in writing and even checking the grammars for them to revise it.

You know why we need to follow the rules in using grammars correctly? It's because it emphasizes clarity and provides good communication process between the author and its readers. It is to convey the message of the writer from his or her writings to his or her readers.

Although there are a lot of people who keep on complaining about following the rules in grammar since they are not aware about it, they often commit bad grammars instead. In fact, this subject is being taught to us in our English course at school so there is no exemption why we couldn't follow these rules correctly. However, I also understand that in some circumstances, there are times that you don't really know some of the rules in grammar. But as a writer, we need to study for us to learn from it and apply it into writing.

During the proofreading process, grammar software can easily identify any word, phrase, clause or sentence construct that breaks Standard English rules. As such, there's no reason for you to ever turn up a piece of writing that's fraught with grammar errors and poor writing.

As you probably already know, following grammar to the point is not always the best thing. There are many instances when a "grammatically wrong" statement may actually be the more appropriate construct to use, apart from being more effective to communicate your message. Sometimes, a statement that a writing software flags as incorrect may actually end up being the exact statement that makes your writing more compelling.

Break It Consciously

If you're going to break a rule of grammar, make sure that you always do it by choice. While we all slip up (yes, even the most staunch grammarians) every now and then, there's just no reason at this day and age to ever publish, print out or submit a piece that contains grammar and spelling problems that slipped you by.

When you're proofreading with a grammar software, always read through the results of the software check, sifting through them one by one to find items that the application should replace and ones that you'd rather it keep. That way, even if somebody chastises you for using "wrong grammar" in your text, you can confidently proclaim that it was an intentional choice that actually makes the piece better.About the Author:
