Teacher professional development must be completed on an ongoing basis for teachers to keep their credential current. Teachers who do not adhere to these policies can face dismissal from their jobs or sanctions that may affect pay. Finding the time to attend training and with ever decreasing resources to afford additional courses, teachers are stuck between a rock and a hard place. Canter schools devised a very proactive strategy to deal with the problems faced by teachers on an annual basis when it comes to maintaining their credentials and potentially moving up the pay scale. Some districts reward teachers with higher pay based on the number of additional hours or courses completedoften up to and including receiving a PhD. Analyzing the needs of school districts, Canter schools realized that many of the continuing education programs were the same or very similar. Most teachers completed their degrees by the time they entered teaching and simply needed a way to complete annual continuing education courses. The school developed a very thorough set of graduate courses, noting that most teachers received higher pay for a Master's degree. Collaborating with education experts around the country, the school developed a curriculum that would satisfy most any of the education requirements needed by a teacher to advance and to fulfill continuing education requirements. The portfolio of courses developed is extensive. The good news for teachers is that the courses are not merely walk-through courses that require very little effort and offer no real value. Teachers and districts will be pleased at the quality of the courses that address current issues. Canter schools sought the best minds and practitioners in education to develop the courses so that every teacher who takes the courses benefits, making them an invaluable resource for teachers and school districts alike.
