Business Performance See The True Picture With The Latest Computer Monitors
Having the right sort of computer monitor which is best suited for the type and amount
of use it will have is important for far more than just creating the righty impression for a business. It is also a leading factor in helping ensure the health and safety of the people who use them.
Anyone who uses a monitor for business purposes, and expects to be sat in front of it for long periods should ideally opt for the largest size they can afford. It was once common for the standard computer monitor to measure 17 inches or so. The measurement of a monitor can be given in inches or centimetres. It does not refer to its width from one side of the screen to another, but diagonally, between opposite corners.
Today, standard sizes generally vary between 19 and 22 inches, and these sizes are optimal for most tasks, such as web browsing and word processing. Monitors also come in standard and widescreen formats, and now most people choose a widescreen model, as this allows users to have several windows open alongside each other at a time.
Resolution is another important consideration. This is measured by the number of pixels which comprise the screens image. The higher the number, the greater the resolution, and so the sharper any items will appear on the screen. Consideration of the right resolution should be coupled with that of the screens response time. This indicates how fast an image on a monitor screen can be refreshed. A slower response time is better, as this means any movement of the image will be smoother, while fast response times can make images look blurred.
For any screen which will be viewed for long periods, the contrast ratio is also an important consideration. Higher ratios can emphasise the difference between the darkest and lightest areas of a screens display. The size of the static contrast ratio is more important than its dynamic contrast ratio, as the latter can make an average or inferior monitor appear better than its true performance.
The other important consideration is how the monitor will connect to the computer. A VGA port is the original standard, and is an analogue connection, whereas the newer DVI port is a digital connection. So the quality of the image achieved can be likened to the difference between an analogue and digital TV signal. The latest innovation, though, is HDMI, which, as might be guessed from the name, is the technology which powers high-definition televisions. This results in the most reliable digital signal because it uses an extremely wide bandwidth.
Usually some form of compromise is offered between the above features which results in a perfectly useable outcome. But some knowledge of them allows individual priorities to be factored into any buying decision.
