Basically you are paying a premium for office space so anything which you can get out of your building will benefit you.

Know what you have.

You will be surprised at how many business owners dont know what they have. Ask them to give you a list of excess inventory and most of them wont know whether they have got it or where it is. You need to know what you have, what size it is, what value it has (for insurance purposes) and what shape it is (if many of you items are round, for example, you are going to have a harder time packing it into a storage unit).

What kind of questions should you is asking?

This is one thing that you must definitely not forget when looking at a storage solution. Are you limited access to your stored items to a set period (for example working hours) or can you get a key for your storage unit and access it 24 hours a day? How secure is your unit against burglars? How much protection does your unit have against the elements? All of this is up to you to decide and mostly depends on the items you are considering storing.

Does your homework

what kind of track record does the company which you want to store with have? In many cases you can search the internet for references and often, if there have been any complaints, you could find these online.

How to go about packing your goods

Packaging, of course, all depends on the items being stored. If you are storing sensitive electronics then place them tightly in a box with packing peanuts. If you are storing furniture it might be worth wrapping them in bubble wrap first. Paperwork should be kept as neat as possible because if it is all thrown together in a box then you are not going to be able to make as much use of your storage space.
