Business Website Marketing - Get Your Website Found!

There are many ways to promote your business and if this was 10 years ago the internet would not be considered a major player

. Now that were in the age of technological advances, websites are a must for all businesses. So you got a website for your business, whats the next step? Business website marketing-translation: get your website found. How do you that? The first step is to build inbound links. Building inbound links is one of the key factors of off page search engine optimization. This is simply having other quality websites link back to your own. How do you build inbound links? Here are a few tips:

- Create quality, entertaining and/or educational content.

The more attractive your content is the more people would want to link to it.

- Submit your website to online directories

There are plenty of free online directories that you can use to assist your website with inbound link building. For instance: superpages.com, loopt.com, biglocal.com etc..

- Write posts/comments for other blogs

This is a win/win for both parties because youre both building links, as long as your content is qualitative.

What comes after off-page SEO? You guessed it, on-page SEO. The basis of on-page SEO is pretty self-explanatory. It is the practice of optimizing your chances of search engine favoritism which has to do solely with determining factors found on your website. What needs to be done to ensure the best on-page SEO? Here are a few things, off the top of my head:

- Primary keyword(s) for each page on your site

Choose one keyword(s) for each page on your website, and then optimize that page based upon said keyword.

Dont have multiple keywords for any one page otherwise said page loses its importance and gains no ranking on search engines.

- Positioning Your Primary Keywords

Place your primary keywords in your headline and sub-headline as these areas contain content that hold greater weight with search engines.

- Keywords in Content

Include your keywords in the content of your pages as long as they are not out of context and make perfect sense.

Make sure the keywords are relevant with the rest of your content.

- Keywords in Images

Include keywords in the file name of your images or use them in the ALT tag.

- Include your keywords in the page URL

- Human Friendly Content

Always write for humans first, search engines second.

What does this mean? It means your website content will ultimately be viewed by humans, which is the ultimate goal. Search engine optimization starts undoing itself at the seams when you prepare content primarily for search engines. The seam that holds it together is the viewers that visit your page. Whats the moral? Prepare content primarily for your audience, secondarily for search engines.

- Title Tag &Meta Tags

Although meta tags dont have as much effect on search engine optimization as they used to, they still play an important role. What is a meta tag? Its a line of code that is contained in the background of a web page. This allows search engines to learn more about your page while classifying it for SEO. What does a meta tag consist of?

Title: the title of the page found at the top of a web browser as well as the main headline displayed in search engine results.

Description: A concise description of the page

Keywords: words that identify what the page is about. No more than 6-7 keywords should be identified per page.

The keywords in meta tags arent visible like the title or description.

- XML Sitemaps

What is an sitemap? Its an .xml file that consists of a listing of all of your pages and when they were last updated. Its really a structural map of your website.

How to create one? There are plenty of sitemap generators online that will create the .xml file for you.

Having one of these isnt really a deciding factor of whether or not your website is the first in Googles search results, but it sure does help.

- 301 Redirects

A 301 redirect is a pretty simple concept to understand. All it does is navigates and redirects users from broken links and old website addresses to the current ones. Example: mac.com--> apple.com.
