California Security Surveillance Equipment Including Cctv Camera
This is actually 2 systems that can be independent or 2 systems integrated to
work with each other.
*** Security Surveillance Equipment ***
CCTV stands for Closed Circuit Television. This type of system has the following
components:
CCTV Cameras
Digital Video Recorder(DVR)
Monitor
Misc cables and peripherals
Cameras
The cameras are the remote device that captures the video and sends it to either
the monitor or the a digital switcher. In most cases the DVR acts as a digital
switcher and also your recording device.
The basic consideration when selecting a camera are:
Where will the camera be used?
How clear do need the picture to be?
Digital Video Recorders(DVR)
The DVR is the brain of your CCTV System. All of your cameras connect to the DVR
and allow you to perform all of the tasks that will allow you to use the system
effectively. The DVR allows you to display the video by full screen so you can
focus on one particular area or you can view multiple cameras with a split
screen. The DVR also allows you to search and display recorded events. The DVR
can also connect to the Internet so that you can view your cameras from a remote
location.
CCTV Monitor
I always recommend using a flat screen monitor when connecting to a CCTV system.
The size of the monitor depends on how many cameras are connected to the system.
Keep in mind that when you are using a split screen mode your picture will get
smaller so it is essential to have a large enough screen to adequately view at
least some detail from each screen.
Misc cables and peripherals
Cameras can be connected in multiple ways and with different types of cables.
Some are connected with coax cable while running a separate cable for power to
the camera. Some cameras are connected using an RJ12 cable which includes video
and power in the same cable.
*** Stand Alone Security System ***
There are several key components that every alarm system must have. These are
not optional and the manufacturer of the security system does not alter the fact
that these are required.
Security System Alarm Control Panel
Hard Wired
Each Burglar alarm system must have a hard wired control panel. Hard wired means
that there is physically wire connected to the panel. In the case of the control
panel the minimum that will be hard wired to it are the transformer and the
keypad.
Security System Keypad
Wireless and Hardwired Alarm Systems
Both types of systems require a keypad to be hardwired to the control panel.
There are keypads that are called wireless but this refers to the devices that
are used in the security system. When a keypad is called wireless it means that
the keypad itself is a wireless receiver and the wireless devices connected to
the system talk to the keypad and that information is then relayed to the
control panel.
At least some of the following devices will need to be added to the system. How
many and which type depends on the area to be secured and the level of
protection desired.
Audible Devices
* Sirens-Horns-Bells
Audible devices come in all shapes and sizes. They do very in the sound produced
and the loudness or decibel ratings. Essentially they all are meant to do one
thing. They produce a loud sound that is meant to alert the surrounding area
that there is an intrusion. They also have a tendency to scare of the intruder
before any items can be stolen or damaged.
Perimeter Protection
* Door/Window Contacts
Door and window contacts are connected to either a door or a window. The contact
consists of a magnetic switch and a magnet. When the window is closed the magnet
pulls in the switch and creates a closed or open connection to the control
panel. When the door or window is opened the switch will change state and an
alarm is initiated.
* Motion Sensors
Motion sensors are devices called PIR (Passive infrared) sensors that detect
motion by sensing a rapid change in infrared energy. When the device sees this
change the alarm is triggered.
You can integrate your CCTV System to work with your Security System. Cameras
can be set to trigger an alarm (contact) that is connected to the security
system and this can be setup to notify you of activity at the camera. If your
security system is connected to a 24 hour central station you must take care to
not have your camera's trigger excessive false alarms.
