Camping Locations in Texas
Camping is as much a part of Texas history as the state itself. Outside of the huge metropolitan areas lies an array of state parks and open terrain just waiting to be discovered and enjoyed. And since you can go camping almost any day during the year, you have no excuse for leaving the sleeping bag stuffed in your storage area.
Over seventy state parks are situated in the state, so there's definitely one nearby. Set out with the family for a bonding weekend at the campsite. Complete the clich with a cookout and a day of fishing with the kids , and if things go well you can cook the fish you caught for supper that night.
If you're in the Dallas vicinity , take advantage of Bonham, Cedar Hill, Eisenhower, or Lake Mineral Wells State Parks. All have the amenities you'd expect to find at a state park, and in some great surprises for the kids . Horseback riding, boating, and hiking are but a few of the great things to do. Grab the boat and pack up the kids.
Other places in the state, head for Hill Country in central Texas. This area offers some of the best camping in the state, with tons of opportunities to hike and explore. Blanco, Garner, Inks Lake, and McKinney Falls are some of the more visited parks, with outdoor areas, tubing, canoeing, and kayaking. Some have cabins for rent, so you can always enjoy the outdoor experience without sleeping on the ground.
The Best of the Many
After you've hit all the well-known and common tourist attractions and hot-spots in Dallas, keep looking; you're not finished . There are some eclectic and less-popular places in the city that are still well work a visit. A few are mentioned here, and there are very many more. These are, without a doubt, the best of the destinations.
Commence at the Frontiers of Flight museum. This off-beat museum houses a collection of flying machines and from the beginning of flight to today. There's a little bit of stuff for everyone here, bi-planes to rockets, so take some time to check it out.
From the nostalgic to the modern, head over to the modern stadium of the Dallas Cowboys. This technological wonder is a world unto itself, with everything imaginable for the die-hard football fan. Whether you take the tour or see an event, you'll be amazed by the sheer size of this coliseum. Finally, you can't leave Dallas without paying respect to President Kennedy by touring the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Repository. The famous floor of the famous building from which the president was shot has been turned into a museum for the President, and it is a stunning tribute. The site can be quite crowded depending on when you visit, but if you're patient, you will be rewarded with a informative exhibit.
