Can I Make A Request That My Cab Driver Speed?
Anyone that takes a cab on a regular basis has been in that situation - the one where
you hop in the cab and ask your driver to get you to your destination as fast as possible. In most situations though, this means that we expect these drivers for taxi services to take us down the most efficient route, avoiding traffic and stoplights to get us where we need to go as fast as possible. There are other situations though, where people may be in such a hurry that they may want to outright request that their drivers speed in order to deliver them to their destination faster. There are a number of things to think about when and before making this type of request.
First of all, it is very unlikely that a cab driver is ever going to agree to speed simply because one of their passengers requests it. The reason for this is simple. You are essentially asking your cab driver to break the law. Now, asking that question in itself probably isn't illegal, and essentially, you are asking them to assume all the legal responsibility for something that you want to happen. It would be the equivalent of someone at your place of work asking you to break an applicable law for their benefit.
That is why most cab drivers are going to be pretty unlikely to honor this type of request. There are a lot of financial problems that present themselves with this type of situation as well. First, if the driver gets a speeding ticket, the amount that it costs them is going to essentially eliminate any earnings that they may have had for the day.
Second, any future income that they may have generated could also be put in peril. That is because too many speeding tickets can cause insurance costs to rise. This might even get to a point where a cab company is going to be unwilling to have that driver continuing to work for them, as they need to keep costs low, and also want to offer their passengers safe rides.
Safety is of course the final concern. The fact that speed kills has been fairly conclusively proven, and cab drivers are putting themselves in more danger anytime they go over the speed limit for a passenger. Most people wouldn't make this risk for others at their jobs, so don't expect cab drivers to for you.
