Understanding first hand, what results can be produced with the right attitude and the wrong attitude, makes me an authority on this subject. Like so many entrepreneurs face, I have suffered the consequences of giving in to my emotions one too many times. When your winning, nothing hurts, so maintaining a positive attitude during those times is a piece of cake, but when the tables turn and your struggling from behind, your attitude can also turn on a dime. Your long term business success with MLM, and success in life in general, boils down to one simple thing how you react when you are put to the test with challenges that may seem larger than life.
I won't give you some vague advice like stay positive, things will change, or keep the faith because what doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger. Although well intentioned, it won't change the situation. A challenge or obstacle can be overcome when you decide to take control of your thoughts, your attitude, your emotions, and focus on the solution instead of the problem. Keeping a positive attitude is more valuable to you than you may think. It is scientifically and spiritually proven to give people a huge advantage over all areas of their life including their health, relationships, ability to cope with stress, and yes, even business success with MLM. Here is what I am referencing.
First, let's address the spiritual or biblical direction. "Death and life are in the power of the tongue; And they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof" Proverbs18:21. We must understand that we can control our thoughts, our thoughts translate to words, and what comes out of our mouths can either infuse life and positive energy, or it can cast defeat and failure into any situation. A universal thought on this subject says that what you focus on most will be attracted to you. So if your thoughts are that of defeat, you will be inclined to move in the direction of failure, because your mind has set the course. However, when you choose to think about positive aspects, you will follow a different path, one that can drive you to overcoming obstables, and you can become the problem solver, not the problem.
Regarding science, the list is endless when it comes to researching our brains, thinking patterns, the speech center of the brain, mind control etc. Just think about how many times you have heard about medicine studies with the use of placebo. Many of these studies conclude that your attitude whether positive or negative, impacts your response and outcomes to whatever the situation. The majority of studies have related positive thinking to health challenges, disease and treatment, and linked higher success rates with those that have positive expectations. There are also studies relating positive attitudes to a longer and better quality life. How can we use this information to succeed with MLM?
Here is the long and the short of it. When you are faced with challenges such as lacking in money, lacking in leads, someone in your team just quit, that big sale fell through, or someone from another company just recruited your star player, you have two choices. Your first option - you can freak out, and open the door for your pity party. When you focus on what is going wrong, it is easy to get stuck in a cycle of negative thinking. In the blink of an eye, your vision is so far out of reach, that you can't possibly see a way of ever getting there. Your mind has become your worst enemy, and it's army has outnumbered you. Drowning in self doubt, you begin to wonder if you were even meant to succeed, then you believe your own lies, you stop working your business, and your dream of success with MLM is gone forever. I too, have fallen into this trap, but thankfully by the Grace of God, I realized that stinking thinking will only lead to a place of complete and utter lack.
The second choice, is you can choose to look first at everything you can be grateful for. Positive thinking is a decision. When you take the time to make a gratitude list, it changes your focus to seeing everything that is working, and what you do have, rather than what you lack. The transformation in the mind is awesome, as you can now see your problems as transitory rather than lasting. It is then, that your actions will follow your mind, and you begin taking steps towards your vision and your goals again. When you take enough action with positive expectations, eventually, you will see results again, and you increase your belief and confidence. This is when you enter the phase of the upward spiral with MLM, because as your belief increases, it leads to more activity, leading to increased results, creating more enthusiasm, so on and so forth.
Can success with MLM really be as simple as positive thinking? If only it were, but the truth is, positive thinking is only a good start. A positive attitude doesn't guarantee your success, but having a negative attitude can certainly guarantee your failure. Accomplishing your goals can be achieved with positive thinking, focused planning, and persistent hard work. The foundation of your success begins with your mind, so take the initial step in preparing for the right attitude, and journal your gratitude list daily. Second, create a business and life plan, and work your plan diligently. The final key is to make sure you have a good diversified marketing strategy in place, to ensure enough exposure for your business and products. Expect the best, and also prepare your response to challenges ahead of time, as this will make it easier to identify when negativity rears it's ugly head. Self pity and doubt are the enemy of success, so break the cycle today, and choose victory over defeat.
