Can You Check The Legal Status Of A Courier?
It may sound simplistic, but if a courier wasn't operating in a legal fashion
, they would have a very difficult time staying in business for any amount of time at all. An average Arkansas delivery service will actually take more pains than many other companies to make sure they are covered legally from as many directions as possible because there are so many different legal matters to consider when it comes to the operation of a courier company.
The first thing to consider from the legal standpoint of a courier company is their hiring practices. Most couriers are very thorough when it comes to screening their employees. Background, credit, and criminal record checks are common, and a clean driving record is always a must. Couriers are very strict about this, both because their reputations depend on it, and because their insurance companies will insist on it.
Insurance is the next factor that comes into play for a courier company. The average delivery company is going to have several different types of insurance at work in their company at any given time. First, they are going to have courier insurance. These are the policies which actually protect the shipments they carry for their clients. Then, they will have insurance on all of the vehicles and drivers in their organization. Finally, they will also bond their employees, to protect you and them against any theft by anyone within the organization.
Another legal aspect of a courier company is making sure that they are up to all of the D.O.T. Standards which are enforced on transportation companies. This means that you may want to check and make sure that they subject their drivers to the D.O.T. Health screening programs and driver training programs.
The health screening program is designed to make sure that no one is on the road driving for a living that has a medical condition that is going to make them more likely to get in a traffic accident. This includes people that are especially at high risk for heart disease and heart attacks. It also screens for people that may have conditions like asthma or epilepsy which are not being treated properly, as an attack could cause them to lose control of their vehicle. The D.O.T. Training programs for drivers are also a legal requirement for couriers in some locations. Be sure to check into the laws and what your courier's policies are to ascertain their legal status.
