Can You Make Homemade Electricity?
It seems like the cost of the electrical power increases every year
. There are a lot of reasons for this, some easy to understand others not so apparent. Certainly, the basic cost electricity goes up because of the cost of the fuel used.
Because of this situation, many are exploring the available opportunities for making homemade electricity.
The most important question to ash yourself is, "is it possible to build a generator at home"? The short answer is yes.
The best ways to understand the possibility of building your own generator is to understand what electricity itself is all about. Of course, there are naturally occurring sources of electricity including lightning and simple static electricity. Lightning is virtually impossible to harness and static electricity produces so little electricity to be of any commercial value.
There are a variety of sources of commercial level of electricity. All of them are produce electricity by some sort of a power plant. Some examples of power plants include:
Hydroelectric plants. These plants utilize the power of falling water. The falling water is used to drive a turbine. The turbine drives a generator. The generator produces electricity that is distributed to the end-user through a large power distribution systems.
Fossil fuel plants. Power plants utilizing fossil fuels use coal, oil and natural gas as the raw materials. These fuels are burned in a Burner. The burner produces heat that in turn converts water to steam. The steam propels a turbine that in turn runs a generator. Once again, electricity is distributed on the same power distribution system, called a grid.
Nuclear power plants. The operation of a nuclear power plant is identical to a fossil fuel plant. The only difference is that the raw material used as a nuclear material versus a fossil fuel. Distribution of electricity is also the same.
None of these are reasonable alternatives for a do-it-yourself homemade electricity seeker. The primary reasons for this is that all of the above types of power plants have to be of quite large scale.
Here are some examples of potentially smaller scale power plants:
Solar power. These plants used the direct rays from the sun. This energy can be converted through generator and distributed through power lines.
Wind power. The common element in all wind power energy plans is a windmill. The windmill is directly connected to a generator and operates in a fashion similar to a solar plant after that point.
The size of both solar and wind power plants can be scaled down to a relatively small size. A homemade do-it-yourself person can, and often do, construct these kinds of electrical generating plants in their own homes and businesses.
The first step in making homemade electricity is conducting research into the alternatives available in your particular location. Next, a cost benefit analysis should be performed to determine if homemade electricity could supply some or all of the electrical needs for your home or your business. Finally, you need to decide if you've got the will to do it.
