Cancerous Moles Symptoms
Many people have moles, some more than others
Many people have moles, some more than others. A person should be aware of what a mole looks like normally as well as what to watch for if they are cancerous. There are blue moles, raised moles, moles that are only on the surface of the skin, called junctional moles, moles on the dermis called dermal nevus and moles that have connections to both the epidermis and dermis, called compound nevus. Adults who notice that moles are increasing in number on their skin need to take precautions since moles rarely grow during adulthood. It may lead to a cancer of the skin, which is a major type of skin tumor.
Normal moles grow in different layers of the skin and that's one way to classify them. Those that grow in the epidermis, the outer layer of skin, are junctional nevus. This type of mole is almost flat to the skin, although they may be slightly raised. Moles that are normal have a similar color all throughout. A mole can be considered suspicious if it has varied colors. Scalp of moles that are cancerous may have different shades like red, brown, tan, or black. There are also some signs that need immediate medical attention such as the appearance of mole at past age twenty, itchy skin, surface is oozing or bleeding, skin is inflamed, skin is scaly or crusty, or it takes a form of a sore that does not heal.
Cancerous moles symptoms are not noticeable all the time. Added to this is the fact that no common symptoms can definitely tell you if a mole is cancerous or not. So it's essential for you to observe the color, shape and size of your moles closely so that you can tell at once if they undergo any special changes that are cancerous-like. If you have cancerous moles, your doctor will recommend that they be removed immediately. Cutting into a mole with cancer cells will not cause the disease to spread. Melanoma accounts for less than 5% of all skin cancer instances. That being said, it also has the highest mortality rate of all skin cancers and can quickly spread to other parts of your body. Melanoma typically presents as a brown, red, or black spot that is irregularly shaped.
An evolving mole is a big concern. So see your doctor if you have any of these signs of skin cancer or cancerous moles. If you catch melanoma early you will be able to treat it effectively. Don't wait. It can sneak up on you. Melanoma is systemic; it is not confined to the area on your skin. Actually, it is hard to tell the difference between precancerous mole and early stage melanoma. Dysplastic nevus or atypical mole is considered as precancerous mole because they have the characteristics that brought suspicions as being cancerous such as having irregular borders and asymmetrical in form. While moles and freckles can be kept if the individual feels that they positively affect their appearance, they need to be routinely checked by a skilled dermatologist for any sign of cancer.
