Cane Swords

The cane swords are the swords that did not originate in one particular culture

, yet we cannot ignore how the media popularized the "Cane Sword" as the "Stick Sword". It is more commonly depicted in the samurai or the Japanese oriented movies where the cane sword became permanent members as they are shown in different places all across the globe as either an accessory of fashion that has some kind of extra usage, or either as a method of concealing the weapon in ones possession.

It had managed to become a particularly famous gentleman's accessory all across the Europe during the eighteenth century, and had been commonly found in several wardrobes that had been owned by the wealthy, and had only lost their ever increasing fame as the popularity of carrying a gun had increased and had hence replaced the sword cane with just simple canes.

Originally, the walking canes had been used as an essential aide that had been used for shepherds. They used the canes in order to keep their flocks in order and for this very reason they preferred a hefty cane or favorably a stick. It was from here onwards that the cane and the walking stick not only became a symbol of power but also of strength. To date in several cultures it is still believed that the walking cane is considered as the key to both power and ultimate success. In fact in the modern world there are literally hundreds and thousands of walking cane styles and also their designs. The influences that are evident from the respective designs have come from not only culture, but also intended usage, and of course the maker of the cane itself.

The cane swords much like the walking canes were used to display not only the taste of the owner but also their class and hence they were at times extensively decorated. Since the ancient times, there have been several deadly weapons that have at times been very artistically decorated, as is evident when you visit the museums. The same can also be said to be true of the sword walking sticks. There are several cane handles that were made from not only ornate silver but also of carved wood and the finest ivory available along with swords that were embellished with both jewels and crystals.

All these ornamentation in reality made the usage of the respective sword canes much difficult for the user as weapons, but there were many who preferred appearance over practicality.

In the past the walking canes used to be regarded as a symbol of measuring the status of a person in the society along with their occupation. There had been people belonging to different occupations and different walks of life who bore different canes on their hands. For example, a cane that was carried by a shepherd and was used for herding the sheep had been very different from the cane that was carried by an academician.
