Caravaning Camping | 7 Questions To Ask Yourself Before Buying A New Caravan
If you love the freedom and excitement of caravaning camping
, you know that one of the most important steps is the purchase of your caravan. One very important step before you start your search is to find out what weight caravan your car can tow. Once you know that, now it's time to figure out what will suit your needs on your next camping trip.
This article will give you seven much needed questions that will help you know exactly what you need in a caravan.
1. Does the bed size accommodate everyone?
Being the tall one isn't always fun. One thing you need to make sure of is the size of the bed. While converting the seating area to a bed, be sure to check the dimensions to make sure it's a sizable bed. You'll also want to check to see if the bed provides enough comfort by checking the depth of the cushions and how much support they can handle.
2. How big does the washroom need to be?
This is an important question when it comes to space. If you plan on using on-site facilities, you really don't need a big washroom. You'll need to check for headroom and how big the shower cubicle is. Also, if the washroom lies above the axle, make sure the wheel arch doesn't take up too much space.
3. How much cooking will be done?
This is a great question when it comes to whether or not you'll need an oven or four-ring hob. If you plan on doing a lot of cooking, then make sure there is ample space for an oven and cooking area. If the majority of your eating will be done outside of the caravan (i.e. eating out, barbecuing...) you can save space and weight.
4. How much space is needed for storage?
This question is more of a practical question for people who love style. I know it's no fun to settle for better storage when you could have a cocktail cabinet, but practicality is more important than style, most of the time, when on the road.
5. What type of caravan layout is preferred?
Most caravan's have two seating areas facing each other that can be converted into double beds. Another layout is more of an "L" shape that can only be used as one double but allows more floor space. Choose the best one based on how many people will be accompanying you on your next caravaning camping adventure.
6. Is a single or twin axle more feasible?
A larger, heavier model will seem more feasible, being that they will have a more stable performance on the road. However, they will also increase maintenance and are more difficult to maneuver in tight places.
7. Will trying before buying help?
If all of this is just too overwhelming, you can actually hire a caravan for a week to try it out. That way, you can make a check list after doing some shopping and take your top choice for a test drive.
Caravaning camping is a great way to travel all over and experience exciting new adventures all over the world. Once you've found a caravan that suits you, all you have to do is plan your next camping trip and head out onto the open road...
