Career Advice Funding Cuts Proposed By The Government

If we are to ensure that our youngsters stay motivated to look for rewarding work, then we need to provide the best career advice available, otherwise this will have a huge impact on the economy for decades to come.

If we cut access to free jobs advice for students as the government is electing to do, then it will open the door for private firms to provide such a service to schools which will obviously have to be paid for.

The problem with this is that most schools have a budget to work to and need to manage their costs effectively, as they are now running their establishments as a business due to the government restrictions. In many cases it could be that schools will elect not to pay for these services, and schoolchildren will be left trying to decide their own career path without expert guidance.

The reason given for the shakeup is that the services provided are not effective enough and are not being used as they should be, so are not cost-effective. The problem seems to lie in the fact that education as with everything else is now measured to the minutest degree and has to deliver targets and milestones within a financial budget.

Whilst it is obvious that a school needs to be run properly and that they do not overspend on non-essential services. It is plain to see that if they cut back on helping the students then they will struggle to find work when they leave college. So the students need to research their ideal job and look for relevant work so that they can choose the ideal profession.

If the government is not going to help students then different methods need to be used to help them to find the right career. This is where online career services and advice centres can help enormously.

The other issue to address is the competition for jobs in a difficult economy. Nowadays it is not enough to just get a degree and assume that you will secure the best job. There is more competition for work and with less jobs on offer it is obvious that something different needs to be done in order to stand out from the crowd.

One novel idea is to use video podcasting to either put your cv on the video channels, or more ingeniously to interview people in your chosen profession and have this published online in your name. If you interview a few people in your chosen industry in your area then you name will get around and when applying for jobs the employer will remember you.
