* Be flexible. This is a hard one for many care givers. There is more than one way to care for someone. Everyone has a different approach. It may not be the same as yours, but sometimes it is important to let go of the little things. Be willing to learn a new way to do things. And be willing to be patient if others do not do it your way. Patience and flexibility will give you strength for your care giving experience.
* Establish boundaries. Set limits. Acknowledge what you cannot do physically, mentally, or emotionally. You need to realize that there are situations that will present themselves to you that you will need to address. By setting limits, you are saving your energy and strength for times when you are needed most.

Avoid that day, by investigating community resources and accepting and asking for help from others. It is important that you have time away and off from the care giving part of your life, because there are so many other parts of your life too!
* Learn stress reduction techniques for everyday stress. Use breathing techniques, prayer, and meditation. Use positive thinking techniques and find some humor in parts of the day.
