1. The openings may conflict

Casement windows open out to the sides, like doors. If you have two of these windows placed close by, side by side, you must be careful that the windows d not open an d crash into each other.

2. They are more open to the weather

Opening outwards, these windows are more exposed to wind, rain, etc. They will thus wear down more quickly than other windows. You may say now that you will close the windows every time it rains so that no water gets into the frame, but is this realistic?

3. The mechanics may break down

Most casement windows open with some sort of crank system. These parts can break down. The crank system can be affected by the weather too.

4. Screens need to be on the inside

Often in summer, you will want to put up a fly screen, and with casement windows, there is a complication. As they open outward, the screen will need to be placed on the inside. If you have children or pets which are apt to want to look through the window, your screens could get pulled down.

If you keep these things in mind, though, there are good reasons to use casement windows.
