Centrax Celebrates In The Success Of Green Nhs Energy Centre
Centrax have been delighted to celebrate in the success of another happy customer
.
Centrax are a UK based company that specialises in the manufacture and service of gas turbine powered generator sets ranging from 3,900 kWe to 64,000 kWe incorporating Rolls-Royce and Siemens gas turbine engines.
NHS Grampian has won a highly prestigious CHP (Combined Heat & Power) award for its new Centrax-powered energy centre at the Foresterhill Health Campus, Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in Scotland, winning the Public Sector Award.
The Energy Centre, which was officially opened this summer by Minister for Public Health Michael Matheson, is already the only Scottish winner in the 2012 BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method) awards, and holds the Scottish Green Awards' Public Sector category prize.
The BREEAM excellent rating secured by the new Foresterhill Health Energy Centre reflects the overall project team commitment made to sustainability. The Centre will provide reliable and efficient energy supplies capable of meeting patient care, staff and visitor requirements for years to come. It will reduce energy costs and carbon emissions through improved generation efficiency, and incorporates flexibility to meet future expansion requirements.
The Energy Centre will not only deal with the anticipated needs of the NHS but also the University of Aberdeen as the Foresterhill Campus is developed in partnership. In addition to supporting the provision of services at Foresterhill, the Energy Centre will help Grampian achieve its carbon reduction targets and improve financial efficiency; the Centre has been designed to reduce carbon emissions by 16% and energy costs by 39%.
It is the only Scottish and only NHS winner in the 2012 CHPA awards, which showcase achievement, innovation and best practice from across the sector over the past year.
"NHS Grampian's Energy Centre winning project was selected for this prestigious award ahead of two other NHS projects which were also shortlisted, both of these were also highly commended by the judges. Key to the selection of the Foresterhill Energy Centre for the award by the judges was the integration of a number of green sustainable technologies and the resilience in energy supply that this provides to Foresterhill health and teaching campus" said Gary Mortimer, General Manager of Facilities and Estates.
The Foresterhill Health Campus is served by a new energy centre that integrates a gas turbine CHP plant with a biomass boiler and three further dual fuel boilers to provide heat and around 90 per cent of the electricity requirement of the site.
The CHPA Annual Awards Dinner was held on 15th November 2012 in London. Now in its fifth year, the CHPA Awards showcase achievement, innovation and best practice from across the sector over the past year. Almost 300 professionals from organisations across the sector met to celebrate success and collective attainment. NHS Grampian were a clear winner in their category.
