By origin, a chakra is a sanskrit word that means "wheel of light." These chakras are known to be the psychic centers of the human body and they are located along the axis of the spine. Basically, these chakras function to vitalize the physical body and bring about the development of a person's self-consciousness. They are also known as the portals that allow auric energy to circulate all throughout the body.

The 7 Primary Chakras and Their Relevance

There are seven main psychic chakras. Each of these look like small energy balls and they come in different colors. Every chakra has a specific function or relevance to a person's physical, mental, and emotional interactions.

MULADHARA

The first psychic chakra is Muladhara. Also known as the root chakra, Muladhara is located at the base of the spin. This reddish colored chakra connects an individual to the physical world. In a spiritual aspect, it is usually associated with the motivation to protect one's self integrity. This psychic energy source paves a solid foundation to move toward higher self-awareness.

SWADHISTHAMA

The sacral chakra is orange in color, and is located somewhere near the lower abdomen. This second chakra is known as the point of emotional connection.

MANIPURA

The third psychic energy center is the solar plexus chakra or the Manipura. This yellow colored energy ball is said to be the key source for the mental understanding of emotional life. This third chakra gives a person the sense of identity.

ANAHATA

Also known as the heart chakra, the Anahata is the psychic love center of a person -- it is all about emotional empowerment. It is located at the center of the chest and is usually either pink or green in color.

VISHUDDHA

The fifth chakra, Vishuddham is also known as the throat chakra. Typically bluish in color, it symbolizes a person's "will center" and is also associated with one's creativity and self-expression.

AJNA

Ajna is the sixth main psychic chakra. It is also known as the third eye chakra or the psychic mind center. Ajna is indigo-colored, and is located at the center of the forehead. It is usually associated with an individual's intelligence and psychic power.

SAHASRARA

Completing the list of the seven primary psychic energy centers is the crown chakra. Sahasrara can appear either whitish or violet in color. Located on top of an individual's head, it is the primary coordination center of the human body and the connection to the spirit.

The Relationship of Chakras and Your Psychic Side

So what's the connection between the seven primary chakras to your psychic side? Here's how it works; all seven of these primary chakras must be harmoniously aligned and balanced in order to vitalize a person's physical body and bring the individual to a higher level of self-consciousness. As what has been established, one's psychic side can be unlocked when an individual can perfect the ideal state of higher consciousness. Basically, it follows that when all of your primary chakras are well coordinated, you have an easier way to connect with your innate psychic side!
