Changing Your Routine With Curling
Many people throughout the United States are recognizing the importance of exercise in their continued good health
. Hundreds of people are joining these people every day.
Exercising brings a lot of benefits to the body. Not only will you experience greater physical strength and endurance, but you will experience a great level of self-confidence, self-esteem, and success in life if you exercise.
Many people find that the most convenient way to exercise is using a home elliptical machine where they can watch their children and exercise in relative privacy and comfort with the convenience of personal music and a TV. The elliptical has many benefits to offer an exerciser.
For example, an elliptical does not cause a person to injure his or her joints like running on a treadmill or outdoors does. The continual pounding of the motion of running can cause knee damage.
However, the elliptical prevents you from landing on your joints over and over through its smooth motion. This machine can also help you get into shape fairly quickly.
Unfortunately, after a while your body will acclimatize to the work out unless you change up your routine every once in a while. While you can simply change the settings on the elliptical, it can be more fun to try another form of exercise once in a while.
One of the most interest sports today is curling. Among the many Olympic sports, this one may see foreign.
However, it is a lot of fun to participate in and it can spice up your exercise routine. Curling is the sport where players move across a long, narrow strip of ice while sliding stones down it toward a large target area at the end of the ice.
Two teams can play this sport at one time on the same ice stage. Each team consists of four players.
Each player get the opportunity to slide the heavy, but smoothly polished granite stones across the ice stage towards the target area, or the house, two times. At the end of the throwing, where the stones are on the target area will indicate specific points for the two teams.
The object of the game is to obtain a higher score than the other team. The closer the stones are to the center of the target, the more points that stone will earn for its team.
The curler is generally the one who throws the stone. He or she can cause the stone to spin so that it will have a circular path.
Then, as the stone travels along toward the end of the ice, two teammate sweepers with brooms can scuff the ice to alter the path of the stone so that it ends up in the center of the target. The ability of the team to work together is critical to the success of the team in earning points.
While this sport may look easy, it is not nearly as easy as it looks. As a result, this sport is has been called "Chess on Ice."
Curling is believed to have originated in Scotland during the late medieval times. A curling stone with the date 1511 engraved into it was discovered in Dublane, Scotland on the bottom of an old pond.
This is the earliest evidence, along with one mention of a sport including stones on ice and two paintings, that indicates the origin of curling. Today, the Kilsyth Curling Club believes that it was the first such club in the entire world.
This club began in 1716 and still continues forcefully today. The name of the sport does not actually appear anywhere until the year of 1620 in a printing from Perth.
The name is used in a poem written by Henry Adamson. Another name applied to this sport is the "roaring game."
This term comes from the sound that the stone makes as it moves across the ice. In the beginning, average river rocks were used for the sport.
These rocks were generally uneven, notched, and rough. This made them difficult to steer and control.
Getting the stone to land on the target was more chance than the skill or strategy that the curlers depend on today. This game was reportedly very popular among weavers in the early days because they could use the heavy stone weights from their "warp beams."
These stones combined with a detachable handle made the perfect tool for curling. This game is still very popular today and an excellent way to spice up your everyday workout routine.
