There are many different skin types
There are many different skin types. It is important to know your skin type so you can use the right
skin care products to suit your skin. Skin types are genetic and usually never change.
The other important thing to remember is there is a big difference between skin types and skin conditions. Your skin may need a very different regime if you have a specific skin condition. Skin conditions are something you can develop and are a result of different factors such as lifestyle, environment or hormonal changes.
Skin types and conditions
Acne & Breakouts. This type of skin is characterised by breakouts on or under the surface. These breakouts can consist of whiteheads, blackheads, irritation and/or redness and can appear in all zones on the face. By using the right products on acne and breakout prone skin, you can, over time, eliminate the breakouts or at least greatly reduce their frequency.
Oily skin. This type of skin is characterised by an over production of skin's natural oils, which leave skin looking shiny and feeling heavy. This excessive oil production is often accompanied by increased skin congestion and clogging of the pores.
Normal/oily skin. This skin type is characterised by excess oil production in the forehead, nose and chin areas, but with balanced oil production in the cheeks. This means that there is more chance of breakouts on the areas of the face where excess oil is produced.
Normal/dry skin. This skin type is characterised by dryness or tightness in the cheeks but the rest of the face may feel balanced.
Dry skin. Dry skin is characterised by tightness, flakiness, dehydration, lack of oil and possibly the appearance of fine lines. It can also be dull and lack lustre. Strong nourishing creams are great for dry skin and will return a natural healthy glow.
Sensitised skin. This skin type is characterised by redness, a chapped or dry appearance, or skin that looks irritated or flushed. All areas of the face can demonstrate these conditions. If you have sensitive skin it is important to use the right type of
beauty products that will not irritate your skin.
Mature or Pre-maturely ageing skin. This skin type is characterised by a loss of elasticity and firmness and is often dehydrated. Wrinkles are deeper, and hyperpigmentation may be prominent. Dermalogica are world renowned for their skin products that reduce the signs of aging and return elasticity and firmness to the skin.
Uneven skin tone. This skin type is characterised by patches or flecks of darkened skin. It can appear in all areas of the face.This can be a result of constant sun exposure. SPF daily is the key to preventing further sun damage. There are some wonderful nourishing moisturisers that also offer sun protection.
