It's an unfortunate product of circumstance that this will be the final production year of the venerable Honda S2000

. This stylish roadster filled the market's demand for an affordable, compact 2-door that screamed "bachelor," and offered excellent road handling capabilities at thousands of dollars less than its nearest competition. Combine this with Honda's legendary record of reliability, and it's a shame that there won't be any new ones for the new decade.

For it's final year, the Honda S2000 did not undergo any significant changes to its performance package. Its 2.2 Liter 237-horsepower still provides ample acceleration, especially when the vehicle's modest 2900-pound curb weight is taken into consideration. While this setup is the only engine option that's available for the S2000 line, the drive train receives no complaints from casual drivers and racing enthusiasts alike.

Honda is known for keeping economy and fuel efficiency in mind with all of its small cars, and the 2009 S2000 is no exception. Despite its above average power ratings, it gets a little over 30 miles per gallon on the highway, making it a very viable option as a daily driver whenever gas prices go back on the rise again. Yet, with a 0 to 60 MPH time of around 5.3 seconds, the S2000 has enough guts to show off whenever the mood hits you.

Perfect balance and weight distribution put this little Honda's handling on par with performance sports coupes that are far outside its price range. With its six-speed manual transmission, the S2000's interesting performance qualities are going to be one that is greatly missed as the new decade kicks off.
