Chicago Certified Toyota Dealer Hopes New Hybrid Concept Becomes A Reality
What happens when a car is so successful that a culture is built around it
? The maker tries to create another hit, of course. Thats just what Toyota has done with the concept FT-CH, shown at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
Toyota has set the stage for successful hybrid production and marketing, and other manufacturers are trying to sneak in to a steal a small part. Perhaps Toyotas versatility and continuous redevelopment, as well as their attention to customer needs and requests have helped them climb to the top of the hybrid ladder.
This hybrid is smaller, more efficient and more affordable than its forerunner the Prius, and Toyota hopes this will appeal to a younger crowd. In Chicago, certified Toyota customers will want to know everything about this new model and how they can get one next spring. I know I am certainly curious about the interior layout and the technological amenities.
Toyota has proven its dedication to eco-friendly, affordable driving with the Prius and has now committed to another eight hybrids in the next five years to help meet the need for vehicles using renewable energy sources. Toyota has shown itself to be a leader in the hybrid market.
Chicago used Toyota dealers are going to be pleased with the new FT-CH, according to Jim Lentz, Toyota Motors president. He says, Its a package Toyota dealers and customers have been asking for. The package is rather vague at the moment, but we do know that it gets better mileage than the Prius and is about 22 inches shorter.
Lentz added, One of many alternatives is through what is commonly called the electrification of the automobile. By far, the single most successful example of this has been the gas-electric hybrid. Lentz could not be nailed down on whether the FT-CH would be part of a family of Prius vehicles, either, as many of us are hoping. The strategy is still taking shape, and obviously it will require additional models to quality as a family. Among others, the FT-CH is a concept that we are considering.
Aimed at a younger crowd known at the 8-bit generation, so named for the 1980s 8-bit microprocessor popular in video games, the retro style of the FT-CH will cater to their vivid, high-energy personalities and preferences. Chicago used Toyota dealers will be glad to have a specific demographic to target, as the Prius has a wider appeal.
Lets hope the 8-bitters are on board because Toyota has set a goal to sell a million hybrids annually worldwide and the FT-CH could add significantly to that number. But for now nothing is set in stone. Its a wait-and-see game as is so often the case. Chicago certified Toyota buyers will have to practice patience.
