Chilli Chocolate - An Odd Combination?
CHILLI + CHOCOLATE..
CHILLI + CHOCOLATE... whod have thought it would work at all let alone provide our taste buds with a unique experience they will never forget? With chilli chocolate its literally a battle between the sweet and the spicy; a war taking place on your tongue, a rebellion of the senses. Upon placing a piece on your tongue, the first flavour to tickle the palette is the sugary yummy chocolate, its sweet and creamy and... wait... whats thats warming sensation beginning at the back of my throat? And then **BOOM** taste explosion!! The chilli bursts through the chocolate like sunshine through a cloud and the comparison between sweet and spicy makes your entire mouth come alive.
Of course, the 21st century chilli head is fooling them self if they believe the combination of Chilli and Chocolate is a new discovery. In fact, the Aztecs would use chillies when preparing cocoa (cacao) as porridge. They would grind cocoa beans, mix the powder in water and then, once suitably aerated, they would add chilli peppers for flavour. The cocoa bean didnt actually arrive in England until 1600s, but with it travelled the wonderful combination of chillies and chocolate.
