Chocolate Facts

"Among the candies that many of us love are Belgian chocolates

. Its unique, sweet and creamy taste makes it the number one favorite candy by people from all around the world.

There have been many chocolate myths circulating like:

1. Eating chocolates can cause pimples. You've probably heard this when you were in high school. How do you feel when you are enjoying eating that sumptuous chocolate when all of a sudden you hear a voice that says it's not good for you? Until now, the myth that chocolates can cause acne is still circulating. But studies have been made for years and the result clearly says that chocolates do not cause acne. Acne can be acquired because of genetic predisposition or personal hygiene (oily skin and the high presence of bacteria) but not because of eating chocolates.

2. Chocolates can make you fat. Whatever food you eat, when you don't practice moderation, you will surely become fat. This is especially true to those who love eating a lot but don't exercise regularly. You are fat because you are always inactive, you are fat because of your calorie intake. Don't take it out on chocolates. Whatever you eat, always remember to eat in moderation. There are about 220 calories in an average bar of chocolate.

3. Feeding your child with chocolates can make him hyperactive. This has been proven by science to be absolutely untrue!

4. Chocolates have caffeine. Chocolates have theobromine which is less powerful compared to caffeine. Chocolates do contain caffeine but the content is very small and is comparable to that of a cup of decaffeinated coffee.

5. Chocolates can destroy your teeth It is actually not the chocolate that can cause cavities but it is the sugar content in the chocolate. Any sweet food can cause cavities and this does not exclude chocolate. So, the next time you eat a bar of chocolate, be sure to brush your teeth or use mouthwash to avoid plaque build up.

Long ago, chocolates were associated with love potions, medicinal drinks and beauty enhancement. Only the royalty can enjoy this candy. Queens and those who are rich use these candies as part of their beauty regimen especially during bed time. But not all of these myths are true and some have been busted. This means that you can eat chocolates without the guilt.

Besides, it is everyone's right to enjoy whatever food they want. But remember to always eat in moderation. Pure chocolates are not factors that facilitate heart disease. In fact, chocolates can reduce cholesterol because of its high levels of cocoa butter.
