It has been shown in studies that either gaining or losing lots of weight in a short period of time isn't healthy, so you don't need to be in a hurry. If you're overweight then you need to be eating healthily, cutting down your calories and getting regular exercise to get on the right path. It's unhealthy to lose a lot of weight in a short amount of time, so do not make a plan to do this as even if you do well you'll probably gain it all back really quickly. Looking at things from the view of your health, it's worse to keep losing and gaining weight than to just maintain a steady weight that is a bit too high.
