This is something the architect will determine when drawing up the plans of your house.

Not only will the pitch be pre-determined, but the number of hips and ridges will also be dependent on the shape of your house. If this is something you are concerned about, you will need to speak with architect while your home is in the planning stage to be sure that your configurations allow the look that you would like to achieve.

Assuming that you are in agreement with everything that your architect has drawn up for you, you are going to have many options as far as the type of roofing material used as well as the color.

You should discuss with your architect the type of roofing that you choose for your house. He will also mention other things to consider such as the slope of the roof and variances within your geographical location, such as snow, sleet, hail, or even extreme dry heat.

Numerous materials are used on a roof. When it comes to asphalt shingles, you have the traditional three tab, the newer architectural style, and the designer lifetime variety. Beyond asphalt, there is also slate, wood, sheet metal, and tile. While all of these are available to any homeowner, some of them come at higher cost than the others. You will also need to consider the other materials used on the outside of your home. If you are going with a traditional vinyl siding, a classic copper roof may not look right. However, if the entire exterior of your residence will be done in stucco, a beautiful ceramic tile will look perfect. There are many factors to take into consideration when choosing the roofing material that is right for your brand-new home.
