Choosing The Proper Type Of Heating System

Whenever wintertime arrives again, many people find themselves checking

, repairing and replacing their source of heating in their home and work areas. The cold is not something that a risk should be taken on.

There are two main types of heating that most people choose between when they are looking at new types of heating for their garage or work area. The first option that most people look at is fan forced natural gas.

This source of heat is very popular in city like areas where natural gas is already being distributed and pumped through the area. The second option that most people look at is a propane unit heater.

Propane unit heaters are generally used by people who live in more remote areas as natural gas is not already being pumped to them. It would be much more expensive for them to pay to have the lines installed for natural gas heating.

Both of these types of heaters run based on the same principle. The gas or propane flow through a gas valve inside the heater, then a spark or pilot flame lights the gas.

This creates a flame inside the heat exchanger. When the heat exchanger reaches the correct temperature, the fan will turn on and blow the warm air out into the room.

These heaters usually have a chimney, or an area where the things that are created through the burning process can escape. There are many benefits to keeping this type of heating rather than other kinds of heating.

The first benefit is that it is very efficient. The method through which this operation works is very good at effectively heating an entire area in a short amount of time.

The second benefit is that it is very powerful. They can make a room feel a much more comfortable temperature very quickly because they do not rely on a centralized boiler.

The third benefit is that there are very few regulative requirements for keeping one of these low profile units. This makes installing this system much less of a hassle than other systems that have many more restrictions and requirements.

The fourth benefit is that most systems have adjustable louvers that allow you direct the warm air where you want it. This means that you can heat the area that needs it most first, instead of waiting for the whole room to heat up.

The fifth benefit of these systems is that they are very durable. These systems are made with the best materials that both perform effectively and last a long time.

The sixth benefit of these systems is that there are many different kinds, styles, and types from which you can choose. This allows you to pick the most effective heater for you home in a style that pleases you.

The seventh benefit of this system is that the heat does not have to be on to run the air. This means that if you simply want to run the fan during the summer, without the heat, you can.

The eight benefit of this system is that these systems are consistently ready to go. The gas is constantly there so you do not have to worry about how much gas you have and when to replace it.

You will simply be able to turn the heat on every time you need it. This kind of convenience is a luxury.

Despite all of these benefits, there are several drawbacks to these types of systems as well. For example, natural gas based units generally require more upkeep and maintenance than many other kinds of home heaters.

The second drawback is that as these systems do create by-products due to the burning of the gas, the by-products will need to be taken care of. The heater does come with a chimney vent, but this vent must be kept clear at all times.

If the vent becomes clogged, it could pose a serious threat to your home. Instead of venting outside like they should, harmful fumes will enter the garage or home.

These dangerous fumes could kill your family members. If your carbon monoxide detector and other detectors do not function properly, you may not even know the fumes are there until it is too late.

The third drawback is that even though there are few requirements, the clearance requirements must be complied with. As this heater runs based on flame, you must keep all flammables far away from the heater.

The fourth drawback is that areas that suffer from greater pollution or dirty, dusty or corrosive atmospheres will have to give more attention to cleaning the system and making sure that it works properly.
