Furnishing a living room is a relatively easy task
. Or is it? Certainly the style and color of the furniture you choose will be a matter of personal preference. There is nothing standing in the way of you buying a bright orange sofa set or a purple leather recliner chair. When it comes to functionality however, you need to take a moment and think.
If you plan on entertaining guests from time to time and they require somewhere to spend the night, you are going to want a sofa bed. Sofa beds are one of the most versatile and useful pieces of furniture that you can bring into your home. Maybe you have a tiny living space and you would very much like to use a sofa bed as your regular, every night sleeping area. This is perfectly acceptable but you need to know this going in to purchase the piece. This means that you cannot pick a sofa bed on looks alone. Take some time and test out the mattresses. Some of the beds have bars in uncomfortable places. Some have very thin mattresses. While this might be acceptable if you have people staying over only occasionally, it's not something you want to sleep on every single night.
You also want to consider alternatives to sofa beds if you're not going to be spending the night on it on a regular basis. Sectional sofas are becoming more and more popular in modern homes. They're also becoming a lot wider. This means that you can possibly get an aesthetically pleasing sectional sofa that has a chaise lounge as a part of the set up and use that for your occasional overnight guests. This way you can keep the dcor of your living room consistent and still have a place for people to stay.
Something else to keep in mind when you purchase any kind of furniture is size. It may only be a loveseat now, but when you unfold the bed it becomes a lot larger. Take lots of measurements and be sure that the fully opened piece of furniture will actually fit in the room with all of your other possessions. Otherwise, the purpose of buying a sofa bed is useless if you can't use it! Consider purchasing a small functional piece of furniture that is aesthetically pleasing and can take a lot of abuse, wear and tear, and hard living.
